What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Worker position at Village of Machesney Park?
The Village of Machesney Park is seeking a hard-working and trainable individual to complete the Public Works team. There may be an opportunity for future advancement within the department.
POSITION
This position conducts a variety of job duties and requires the applicant to follow all safety rules and regulations. The position is full-time and reports to the Public Works Director. Specific duties may include but are not limited to:
- Perform any combination of manual and semi-skilled tasks as assigned
- Respond to call out emergencies on a 24/7 basis
- Maintenance activities: Streets – pothole patching, curb repair, inlets and drains, snow plowing, Parks – inspection of structures and mulch application, Village owned facilities – routine maintenance as needed, Vehicles and equipment – routine maintenance items, Street signs and traffic signals – repair and replace as needed
- Ability to operate or be trained to operate various types of equipment from hand tools to heavy equipment; majority of jobs are more labor intensive rather than machine-based
REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 3-5 years of experience in public works operations or similar job-related field
- Mechanical or electrical experience preferred
- Possess a valid Illinois Driver’s license; CDL license is not required
- Pass a pre-employment background check, physical (ability to lift 75 pounds), and drug screen
- Residency is required within 25 miles of the Village border
COMPENSATION
Starting rate $25.00 - $28.84 per hour dependent on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
