ABOUT THE POSITION
The Village of Milford is seeking hard-working individuals for a Seasonal Laborer position within
the Department of Public Services. Seasonal Laborers complete a variety of tasks and projects to
assist the Department in maintaining the physical infrastructure within the Village including streets,
utilities, parks, and more. The position is anticipated to run from approximately early May to
August 31st.
The primary responsibilities of this position include the operation of equipment during the
completion of assignments related to landscaping, forestry, and parks maintenance to help keep the
community looking great. Additional responsibilities pertaining to the maintenance and repair of
Village infrastructure may be assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants for this position should possess the following minimum
qualifications at the time of application. Equivalent combinations of
experience and training may be considered.
- A high school diploma, or its equivalent
- A valid State of Michigan Driver License
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The following qualifications are not required for this position, but are
desirable:
- Prior experience working in landscaping, irrigation, plumbing,
- Experience using a variety of tools, machinery, and equipment
The environment for this position includes working outdoors in extreme weather conditions and requires
employees to place a strong emphasis on safety. Employees must demonstrate good judgement, initiative,
and resourcefulness in carrying out assigned duties.
WAGES & SCHEDULE
This position offers a starting wage of $19.55 per hour, with an anticipated schedule of 40 hours
per week.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Public Services (DPS) is responsible for a wide variety of tasks within the Village.
DPS employees maintain the Village’s six parks, approximately 27 miles of roads, parking lots in the
downtown district, the water supply and distribution system, the sanitary sewer collection and
wastewater treatment systems, the storm sewer collection system, and the civic center site. The DPS
also maintains the Department’s vehicles and equipment as well as police, fire, and Township
vehicles as necessary.
ABOUT THE VILLAGE
The Village of Milford is 2.5 square miles nestled in
southwest Oakland County and is easily accessed from
both I-96 and M-59. With a population of approximately
6,500, the Village serves as the central business district for
approximately 25,000 people in the surrounding areas.
The thriving downtown district features unique shops and
restaurants and draws visitors from communities such as
Ann Arbor and Dearborn all while retaining its small-town
charm.
The Village boasts six parks within its boundaries. Central Park, located on the banks of the Huron
River, is the epicenter of the community and has recently undergone a multimillion-dollar
renovation. Featured activities at Central Park include volleyball, basketball, tennis, and even ice
skating in the winter. Central Park is also home to the LaFontaine Family Amphitheater, an outdoor
concert and event space which was opened in 2015. Fairgrounds Park is home to the Milford
Skatepark and also provides access to a picnic area. Hubbell Pond Park is the site of the YMCA and
Library, as well as a trail system that runs from Commerce Road all the way to Kensington Park on
South Milford Road. The Village is part of the Huron Valley School District with two elementary
schools and one middle school located within the Village.
The Village has 67 part-time and full-time employees and a total budget of approximately $19.6
million in fiscal year 2024-25.

Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Public Services Director or the Assistant Director(s) of Public
Services, provides assistance to higher classified employees in the daily operations, cleaning,
and maintenance of Village buildings, grounds, infrastructure, parks, equipment, and other
projects as assigned.
Essential Job Functions:
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples
do not include all of the duties which the employee may be expected to perform. To perform this job successfully, an
individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
1. Assist higher classified employees with operations and maintenance work for various
Village property, equipment, and infrastructure.
2. Perform building, grounds, infrastructure, and parks light maintenance, cleaning, and
inspection. This work includes, but is not limited to, lawn mowing, weed trimming,
pothole patching with both hot and cold patch materials, snow removal using manual
or light equipment methods, and other similar tasks.
3. Clean, maintain, and organize tools and equipment required in the performance of
regular duties.
4. Knowledge of, and adherence to, standard operating procedures, safety standards,
and other Village policies.
5. Perform related work as required.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly to travel to various locations
within the Village and work outside the office at field sites, including visiting construction sites with
treacherous terrain, requiring the employee to traverse uneven ground, climb up or crawl down to
access the site, and may involve fumes, dust, chemicals or other hazardous materials, loud
machinery and equipment, and other dangers associated with engineering projects and
construction sites. An employee in this position must have the strength, stamina and physical
coordination needed to gain access to the construction project sites described above, observe
and inspect work in progress, and operate hand and power tools. The employee is occasionally
exposed to adverse weather conditions, loud noises, moving mechanical parts, dust or airborne
particles, and fumes. The noise level in the work environment may be loud in field situations.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in an office setting with
a controlled climate where they sit and work on a computer, communicate by telephone, email or
in person, and move around the office. The noise level in the office work environment is usually
quiet.
