Assistant Public Works Director

Mokena, IL, population 19,887, is a suburban community located approximately 35 miles southwest of Chicago in northeastern Will County. The Village of Mokena is a family-oriented community with outstanding schools, parks, and excellent municipal services. The Village of Mokena is seeking professional, innovative, and self-motivated candidates interested in serving the next Assistant Public Works Director.

The Assistant Public Works Director position is under the supervision of the Public Works Director. This position is responsible for assisting the Public Works Director with all aspects of public works services provided by the Village (managing, directing, planning, budgeting and supervising all public works functions including water and wastewater distribution/treatment, streets, facilities and commuter parking lot maintenance), with a reporting staff of 25 full-time employees and a ±$10 million operating budget. 

The Village is seeking candidates with strong leadership and excellent communication skills who wish to join a professional management team. All Village employees are expected to embrace the motto, “Where Our Customers Always Come First”. 

The successful candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from an accredited four-year college or university. Candidates would ideally possess at least five years of progressively responsible public and/or private sector experience and/or training. Additional qualifications to include (but not limited to) to think proactively and develop strategic plans, and the ability to coordinate and work well within the management team and with other staff members.

All applicants must possess a valid Illinois Driver’s License. The annual salary range is $127,347 to $142,210, depending on qualifications and experience.
