POSITION SUMMARY
Performs moderately difficult work in the operation and maintenance of multiple Village facilities. Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise sound judgment in performing a full range of tasks to ensure functionality of all Village-owned equipment and facilities. The employee shall also assist other Public Works personnel in emergency operations and comply with all safety procedures and policies of the Village.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

- Inspect, maintain, repair, and replace mechanical and electrical systems of buildings and equipment.
- Maintain the Village streetlight system.
- Maintain the Village keyless entry and alarm system.
- Clean and paint equipment and facilities.
- Maintain knowledge of safe practices and equipment used to perform duties, including but not limited to: working with chemicals, solvents, and constituents; preventative maintenance; and preventing, identifying, and removing safety hazards.
- Mow lawns, trim trees and perform other building and grounds maintenance activities.
- Perform JULIE locates as needed.
- Perform snowplowing ice control and other non-routine emergency duties such as disaster services, water main breaks, sewer main excavations, etc.
- Attend required meetings and participate in training on work procedures and safety.
- Perform other duties, tasks, and responsibilities as assigned.
- Regular and reliable attendance is required.
COMPETENCIES
- Considerable knowledge of several of the following trade and craft areas: carpentry, heavy construction, electrical and power work, heating and ventilation, masonry, plumbing, painting and plastering, roofing, and snow/ice control.
- Knowledge of applicable building and construction codes.
- Ability to make material and labor estimates and computations.
- Ability to assess situations and make appropriate judgments.
- Ability to negotiate agreements involving building and maintenance contracts.
- Competent use of general and specialized tools and equipment to perform electrical and mechanical repairs.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, in order to work effectively with Village staff, the community, and outside suppliers/vendors, and to follow and respond to written and verbal instructions.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of experience in the construction, repair, or operational and preventative maintenance of public or commercial buildings.
- A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with tanker endorsement is required within 6 months of start date, however, a Class A CDL is preferred.
- Ability to drive and to operate department equipment.
- Possess a strong mechanical aptitude.
- Physical ability to perform the foregoing duties in a satisfactory manner.
- Ability to work for extended hours in all weather conditions and provide physical exertion as found necessary in assisting or completing department activities.
- Work overtime as directed or as needed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Must be able to work independently in a variety of environmental situations including inside buildings, outside buildings, on uneven terrain, in elevated heights, and in confined spaces.
- While performing the duties of this position the employee will be required to work outdoors and be exposed to wet or humid conditions, extreme hot or cold temperatures, and airborne particles.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in the office, and moderate in the field.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- While performing the duties of this position the employee is required to see, hear, walk, bend, stretch, squat, kneel, balance, climb, reach with hands and arms, use hands and fingers, and utilize fine and gross motor skills in handling objects, tools, controls, and equipment.
- Specific vision abilities by this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift and move over 50 pounds.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Per the collective bargaining agreement, the selected candidate will have the opportunity to advance a step within the salary range of $58,872 - $80,571 on an annual basis.
The Village offers a generous benefits package, including an Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) pension, vacation days, personal days, nine (9) observed holidays, and sick time. Medical, dental, life insurance, and medical/dependent flex plans are also included.
