Utilities Crew Leader position, under the general supervision of the Utilities Field Supervisor, supervises assigned crew members to perform routine, emergency, and preventive maintenance assignments relating to the operation and maintenance of water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and vacuum sewer systems.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The following duties are normal for this position.Supervises and participates in the installation, repair, and preventative maintenance of various facilities within the Utilities Field Division of the Utilities Department. • Issues, assigns, completes, and closes out work orders. • Inspects, directs, and oversees the maintenance and repair of assigned equipment and tools. • Conducts regular safety meetings with assigned crews. • Prepares routine reports, work orders and maintains records. • Organizes and assigns daily tasks to crew(s) and reviews the completion of jobs with crews. • Organizes and executes long term system maintenance schedules including valve exercising and hydrant flushing programs. • Coordinates work with other crew leaders to maintain deadlines. • Assists in training and ensures safety practices and quality workmanship of assigned crew. • Operates light and heavy construction equipment including, but not limited to, vacuum excavators, backhoes, dump trucks, and front-end loaders. • Monitors the shoring of trenches and confined spaces. • Plans and monitors the restoration of completed projects, including landscaping and asphalt. • Ensure proper maintenance of traffic (MOT) measures are used. • Determines and requisitions necessary equipment and materials for job assignments. • Performs routine on-call shifts as assigned. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Knowledge of utility maintenance, repair, and construction methods.Knowledge of occupational safety and health rules, regulations, practices, and procedures.Knowledge of Utilities policies and procedures.Ability to supervise and evaluate personnel performance.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, and the general public.Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.Ability to manage workflow with strong organizational skills.Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns.
