Performs work assisting in the operation and maintenance of Pinecrest Gardens and its infrastructure.

The following duties are normal for this position.  The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.

  • Assists in the monitoring and maintenance of the facility, structures and recreational equipment in adherence with applicable State and Federal health codes. 
  • Assists in the preparation and delegation of work duties and assignments of the Garden Service Aides.  May assist in preparing schedules.
  • Assists in the training of new Garden Service Aides.
  • Performs manual work in semi-skilled jobs involving maintenance, repair of buildings and grounds and minor construction, including pressure cleaning, graffiti removal, painting and other related tasks.
  • Monitors assigned facility and assists with inspections to ensure the safety of the public and the facility. Advises supervisor of safety hazards and non-routine repairs as needed.
  • Provides logistics assistance on event days; assists with the coordination of activities, including timely event setup, breakdown and cleaning of rooms for events, programs and rentals.
  • Assists in overseeing vendor repairs, sub-contractors and contractual services in accordance with budgetary guidelines.
  • Responsible for inventory control and procurement of Garden animal feed, cleaning supplies and concession resale and reconciling related invoices for payment; maintains inventory for campus signage and marketing materials.  
  • Provides courteous, prompt and knowledgeable customer service to the public in person and on the telephone by providing general information regarding programs and events, facility rentals and memberships; greets visitors in a friendly and sincere manner; escorts guests through the facility as needed.
  • Under the direction of the Garden Director and Operations Manager, acts as day of liaison between Pinecrest Gardens and the Farmers Market. Corresponds with community partners and maintains scheduled of assigned community tables at the weekly farmers market. Ensures staffing of Garden table and distributed materials.
  • Coordinates and maintains parking stripping and related logistics for overflow parking areas.
  • Schedules routine maintenance, including plumbing, septic pumping.
  • Schedule and maintain Garden and special event banners, on campus signs and flags.
  • Assists in the interviewing and selection of Garden Service Aides. May provide input into the preparation of the annual evaluation for these positions.
  • Manages and maintains cash banks and credit card machines and supervises staff who process cash and credit card payments. Responsible for reconciliation of concessions and admission operations and cash boxes.
  • Assists in regular hands on training of operations staff to maintain and improve quality customer service standards and ensure standards and policies are adhered to.
  • Attends weekly staff logistics meeting and other meetings as directed by the Pinecrest Gardens Director.
  • Maintains lost and found depository.
  • Enforces safety and other facility rules and regulations and report violations to management.
  • Assists office staff with general clerical duties, telephone inquiries and dealing with the public.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Four-year degree in the field of hospitality or business or closely related and three (3) years of experience in gardens, cultural arts centers, parks, theme parks, attraction management or facility maintenance, or equivalent combination of education and experience.  

Additional Qualifications:

  • Must have a thorough knowledge of basic rules of safety and ability to enforce applicable rules and regulations.
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills and be able to establish good customer relations. Must have an ability to deal with people effectively, courteously and enthusiastically. 
  • Must be physically able to perform duties, which may require walking, crawling, kneeling, or standing for prolonged periods of time and heavy lifting. 
  • Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Word.
  • Must have considerable knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
  • Must maintain high ethical, honesty and moral standards. 
  • Must be prepared and available to work during a hurricane in the Village’s EOC.
  • Must be fluent in the English language.  Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.
  • Must be a non-smoker.
  • Applicants must complete all requirements established by the Village of Pinecrest for employment. This may include, but not limited to, a written examination, typing test, psychological screening to determine suitability for position, polygraph examination, comprehensive background investigation, and a job-related medical examination including a drug/alcohol screening test.
  • The minimum qualifications may be waived by the Village Manager. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a licensed driver status in the State of Florida.
  • Ability to become CPR and AED certified within six months of hire.
  • Ability to become AFO and Parks & Recreation certified. (ref note: AFO splash water chemical maintenance)
  • Ability to work assigned schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays.
  • Ability to balance, crouch, feel, finger, grasp, handle, lift/push/pull objects, reach, make repetitive motions with the hands, express ideas through speaking, use mental/visual faculties and hear sound.
  • Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Ability to be held accountable for inventory/property management.
  • Ability to use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems. 
  • Ability to work outdoors for long periods of time.
  • Ability to perform several tasks at one time.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of organization.
  • Ability to prioritize duties and meet department goals and deadlines.
  • Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive matters and exercise discretion.
  • Ability and responsibility to effectively work independently, exercise discretion and independent judgment and maintain confidentiality and professionalism in the execution of duties.
  • Ability to get along with others and work effectively and courteously with fellow workers, officials, other agencies and the public.
