What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Counselor position at Village of Pinehurst?
2025 Summer Camp will run from June 16th - August 8th, Monday - Friday, from 7:30 am - 5:30 pm. Varying shifts/hours are available.
An employee in this class is responsible for participating in activities with campers, supervision on field trips, behavior management and other unique experiences. Work is performed under the supervision of the Program Coordinator but may report to the on-site Camp Supervisor for day-to-day direction. Must be available to work a flexible schedule, Monday through Friday.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Effective visual perception is needed for making observations including distinguishing colors, performing visual and physical inspections of work site. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. The employee may be exposed to noise, infectious and/or contagious diseases, and inclement weather. Work is typically performed while walking, standing, running, bending, crouching, or stooping. Employee will occasionally lift light and heavy objects. Must be able to perform moderate work exerting up to 25 lbs. of force, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. 17 years of age at the time of employment (prefer 18 years of age). An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the job.
Prefer: First Aid/CPR certified.

- Actively lead participants in recreation and leisure activities
- Administer first aid and properly document each incident
- Set-up and break-down equipment; report equipment problems to the supervisor
- Maintain clean work and play areas
- Enforce camp rules; document incidents if needed
- Carries out behavior management procedures and handle camper emergencies
- Assist with camp opening and closing
- Assist with camper drop-off and pick-up
- Other related duties as assigned
- Must be able to report to work promptly and when scheduled
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with campers, staff, peers and management
- Communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing
- Knowledge of department policies and procedures
- Knowledge of recreation and program instruction
- Ability to observe and work with large groups of children
- Ability to follow directions; enforce rules
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and to perform duties with minimal supervision
- Ability to respond effectively to inquiries or complaints
