Current schedule and position needed:
- General Labor/Operator
- Monday through Friday 7am - 330pm
TITLE: Public Works Laborer – FULL TIME
The Public Works Laborer is responsible for performing basic skills and learning advanced skills related to street, water and sewer utilities and public buildings and grounds. Full Time positions will generally be assigned by department, but basic knowledge of all departments is required, as all Public Works employees are required to help out in every departments as the work load demands and perform all other assigned duties. Full Time employment includes a forty (40) hour work week, plus mandatory participation in an on-call rotation. Must respond to call outs 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.
The Public Works Laborer works under the supervision of an assigned department Lead Man, or under the Public Works Superintendent when not assigned to a specific department.
DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS
Street Department Laborer:
Assist Street Leadman with all related duties, such as:
- Various snow removal activities, such as plowing and hauling snow
- Maintain curb, gutter and sidewalk
- Street sweeping, striping, and patching
- Repair and replace street signs
- Maintain and clean storm water systems
- Keep environment neat, clean and organized
Water Department Laborer:
Assist Water Leadman with all related duties, such as:
- Read, maintain and replace water meters
- Help read, test and treat potable water
- General maintenance of pumps, equipment and well sites
- Repair and maintain water mains, services and valves
- Keep environment neat, clean and organized
Sewer Department Laborer:
Assist Sewer Leadman with all related duties, such as:
- Help read, record and maintain all sewer lift stations
- General maintenance of pumps and other wastewater equipment
- Clean and repair sanitary sewer mains and manholes
- Assist in the operation and maintenance of Wastewater Treatment Facility
- Keep environment neat, clean and organized
Building and Grounds Department Laborer:
Assist Buildings and Grounds Leadman with all related duties, such as:
- Mowing and trimming Village owned properties
- General building repair and maintenance
- General vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance
- Assist with Special Event setup and cleanup
- Assist with tool and equipment inventories
- Keep environment neat, clean and organized

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent
- Ability to operate vehicles, tools and equipment
- Valid class B CDL driver’s license within 1 year of Start date.
- General knowledge of Public Works safety principles and practices
- Ability to maintain good working relationships with other staff and the general public
- Reside within 25-minute response time to the Village of Rockton
- Must have the physical and mental capacity to perform duties

Work is performed both in the office and out of doors. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate equipment and perform manual labor. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high/low places. There is occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment will vary from quiet to loud.
