Classification Summary
This position will plan promote, coordinate, assist with supervision, and work recreation activities with groups of youth ages K - 12 and adults in recreation facilities and outdoor venues. Activities may include a variety of camps, hiking, runs, biking, movie nights, pool parties, games, social recreation, other fitness classes, special events and leagues providing activities and educational programs for youth as set forth by Recreation Coordinator and/or Recreation Supervisor and lead the recreation aides in group activities. This position is under close supervision of the Recreation Coordinator and/or Recreation Supervisor. This is a part time 20-40 hour per week non-exempt position reporting to the Recreation Coordinator and/or Recreation Supervisor. Schedule may be adjusted based on the needs of the department. Extended hours may be required. Must be able to adapt to a flexible work schedule as established by management.Essential Job Functions

Frequent - ability to travel for activities such as field trips to horse stables, lake, pool, ball fields, and out of the area possible overnight travel may be required.Qualifications
High School Education or equivalent required. Some college course in education, physical education or child development preferred. One-year experience working with children preferred. Must enjoy working with youth kindergarten – sixth grade and possess Excellent Customer Service skills and have strong oral communication skills. This position is required to maintain a source of communication for off duty work-related communications.
Must be willing to take and pass a drug/alcohol test and comply with agency “Drug Free” Policy and must be able to pass regular criminal history checks.
Licenses and/or Certifications
Prefer a current Standard First Aid and CPR Certification. Must possess and maintain valid New Mexico motor vehicle operator’s permit of appropriate classification and endorsement as required. Must agree to maintain a satisfactory MVR and minimum requirement of insurability as required by law. MVR background checks will be conducted by the Village.

- Will assist and actively participate with variety of camps, open gym, pool parties, movie nights, runs, special events and leagues providing activities and educational programs for youth and adults, including assistance with planning programs and events.
- Makes recommendations in program placement and participates in special events to facilitate participant engagement and effective use of available resources.
- Patrols and monitors recreation areas, facilities, and the activities of participants to prevent accidents; communicates and enforces rules and regulations regarding unsafe actions, areas, and state health codes to promote safety of all participants.
- Oversees and monitors the maintenance, condition, and safety of facilities and equipment to ensure proper operations and report issues of concern to appropriate staff.
- Ensures necessary supplies and equipment are available and in proper condition for use.
- Effectively communicate with parents, participants, coaches, and officials
- Perform clerical duties, answer inquires on activities, registers participants, responds to inquiries and providing information.
- Create and maintain learning and exploring environment for participants.
- Ensure participants engage in safe activities while encouraging youth participation.
- Supervise and Monitor recreation activities, schedules and issues equipment, material and awards.
- Assist in the purchasing of items and distribution of supplies, ensure facilities used for a variety of activities are safe, and cleaned up after activities/events.
- Provides information to parents and participants regarding activities and events
- Enforce rules and regulations of recreational facilities and variety of camps to maintain discipline and ensure safety.
- Work at other Village facilities helping answer phones, cover for special events at Parks & Recreation, and help at the Community Center/Senior Citizen Center occasionally.
- Ensure that employees and clients of all races, religions, family backgrounds and cultures are treated with respect and consideration.
- This position works with and oversees sports officials, independent contractors and/or instructors.
- Assists with preparing the writing for department media to assure effective and appropriate content is delivered; coordinates with Supervisor the planning, development, and preparation of writing, editing, and dissemination of department related print advertisements, newsletters, social media, and public service announcements to meet time-sensitive deadlines and provide clear and concise communications.
Other Responsibilities or Job Requirements
- Completes personal timesheet accurately and timely using the Employee Self Service software and ensures time is reported based on actual time worked.
- Principles, practices, and techniques of first aid, and CPR techniques.
- Janitorial duties (cleaning restrooms, cleaning and disinfecting decks and showers).
- Management Level of North American Youth Sports Training must be obtained within two (2) weeks of hire date.
- Attend meetings, trainings, and workshops as needed
- Responsible for performing computer backups on computer that is being used on a regular basis.
- Ensures that any participant injury is reported immediately and followed up with appropriate forms and actions.
- Ensures any reports of harassment are immediately reported and appropriate actions are taken.
