Salary : $22.50 per hour

Deadline : Open Until Filled

Approx. Start / End Dates : May-Aug 2025, with opportunity for continuing as a year-round Intern

Average No of Weekly Hours : 26 hours

Hourly Rate : $22.50

Candidates who are not enrolled in college at least to the end of calendar year 2025, are ineligible for Internship.

PROGRAM GOALS

The Village is currently accepting applications for a Civil or Environmental Engineering Intern who will receive on-the-job exposure through performance of a variety oftechnical engineering field and office duties, to include investigation, development, design, construction and maintenance of Village utilities.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education and Experience

  • Candidates must be actively enrolled and attending an accredited college / university in the field of Civil or Environmental engineering.

  • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting department rules, regulations, policies, and procedures

  • Ability to plan and organize time effectively
  • Skill in the use of standard office computer equipment and software applications
  • EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Assist with reviewing plan submittals for consistency with departmental and industry standards
  • Assist in reviewing or conducting preliminary in-house designs of water and stormwater utilities infrastructure
  • Assist with, or conduct, stormwater calculations, including impervious materials using GIS maps, county property appraiser information, or other data
  • Assist with identifying new and existing utilities infrastructure from as-built drawings and / or working with field staff
  • Prepare construction progress charts for projects
  • Assist with project management duties and may lead / manage small projects
  • Prepare preliminary engineering reports, environmental reports, permits, plans, and specifications
  • Interprets drawings, blueprints, survey reports, maps, aerial photography, soils reports, environmental reports and other topographical geologic data to plan projects
  • Provides recommendations for system mapping for the assigned division / department of the Village
  • Assist with technical guidance and may answer questions regarding design and construction activities
  • Perform basic administrative duties including written reports, memorandums, letters and electronic correspondence, interaction with the public and communication through telephone and meetings
  • Attend committee and staff meetings as assigned
  • Prepare and present talks and presentations and participate in local Toastmasters organization
  • Perform other related duties and assume other responsibilities as necessary or as delegated
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • May be required to work before or after hours and / or weekend hours for special events
  • Frequently lifts and / or moves up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Working conditions will vary to include an air conditioned office, with regular field activities resulting in exposure to outdoor elements, walking, sitting standing and other physical requirements
