JOB DESCRIPTION
The Village is currently accepting applications for the vacancy of Part-Time Code Compliance Officer in the Building department. This position is responsible for performing skilled investigative, technical, and administrative work in the enforcement of the Village's building and zoning code regulations and ordinances, identifying code violations and issuing notices/citations, maintaining case records.

Salary Range: Code Enforcement Officer: $24.78 - $37.76
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Valid Florida driver’s license
- 1 year’s previous experience and/or training involving code enforcement
- FACE Level I required within six months of employment, Level II within one year.
- Or any equivalent combination of qualification and experience in municipal code enforcement and administration
Necessary Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of Village planning, zoning, building and landscape codes, regulations and legal procedures for enforcing same
- Some knowledge of the construction industry
- Ability to communicate effectively under trying or agitated circumstances and relate with courtesy, respect, tact, and diplomacy while enforcing codes
- Ability to deal with the public firmly and impartially
- Ability to present findings and recommendations concisely and effectively, orally or written
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public
- Competence with Microsoft software suite of products.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Interprets and enforces the provisions of Village codes, state environment laws and other applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations, specifications, standards, policies and procedures; researches code-related issues as needed
- Patrols for potential code violations/investigates and responds to complaints to determine if a code violation exists and gives notice of required action to abate the violation
- Initiates documents, fact sheets, and other paperwork for prosecution of cases, attends and presents case at Special Magistrate's Hearing and submits reports and data with evaluations, conclusions, and recommendations
- Documents, records and maintains files on all actions taken
- Corresponds with violators explaining violation and code enforcement process
- Monitors cases for compliance with Magistrate’s ruling and follows up to conclusion
- Performs general/clerical tasks, which may include answering telephone calls, typing, scanning, copying, sending/receiving faxes, filing and processing incoming/outgoing mail.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Schedule subject to change and currently includes 2 workdays and half-day Saturdays, up to a maximum of 20 hours weekly
- Works outside various weather conditions, and may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim light, toxic agents, violence, disease, pathogenic substances or animal attacks
- Exerts moderate physical effort involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling
- Occasional need to lift, carry, push and/or pull objects weighing up to 25 pounds
- Performs tasks involving extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
