Job Description
The Village is currently accepting applications for a Part-Time Recreation Specialists in Parks & Recreation responsible for coordinating and supervising various recreation programs and special events for the Village, in addition to providing customer service support for the department.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education and Experience
High School Diploma
Some experience in a recreational environment, working with kids or playing sports, (certification in recreation, education, physical education or related field desirable, but not a necessity)
equivalent combination of education and training which provides the requisite knowledge and skills
A valid Florida drivers license
Necessary Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Basic knowledge of the principles and practices of modern parks and recreation programs,
Basic knowledge of the principles and practices of modern parks and recreation programs,
Basic knowledge of equipment and facilities in a park and recreation program,
Basic knowledge of community recreation needs and resources,
strong customer service skills and experience working successfully with diverse individuals and groups,
Computer literacy and technical competency using a variety of computer software,
Ability to maintain working relationships with employees, other departments, officials and the general public; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Plans, coordinates, and assists in conducting various projects, youth / adult activities involving sports leagues, recreational activities, camps, and other programs; transports youth during field trips as needed.
Performs customer service functions; provides information and assistance related to parks / recreational facilities and activities, procedures, forms, fees or other issues; responds to routine questions, complaints, or requests for service.
Conducts program registration; reviews for completeness; calculates and collects appropriate fees in accordance with Village policy and creates list of registrants for each program.
Conducts facility & pavilion reservations; reviews completed forms for completeness; calculates and collects appropriate fees and creates schedule of bookings.
Receives payment for program / class registration fees or other fees / services; records transactions, issues receipts, and forwards revenues as appropriate.
Provides guidance for groups, organizations or individuals using parks / recreation facilities or participating in parks / recreation programs; explains policies and procedures to program participants, monitors for compliance and takes appropriate action as needed.
Assists in monitoring the safety and security of park programs, facilities and grounds; locks / secures recreation buildings; identifies problems, needed repairs, or other situations requiring attention.
Performs general repair / maintenance tasks involving sports paraphernalia or recreational facilities / equipment.
Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, payments, or other documentation, reviews, completes and processes in accordance with department and Village standards.
Prepares or completes receipts, forms, reports, correspondence, tournament brackets, schedules, participant rosters, check requests, or other documents, in accordance with department and Village standards.
Communicates with supervisor, employees, camp counselors, class instructors, volunteers, other departments, program registrants / participants, parents, teens, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate activities, review status, exchange information, and resolve problems.
Performs marketing and promotional activities to promote the facilities and services; prepares flyers and other advertising materials.
Assists with the organization and execution of major department projects.
Coordinates concessions stands.
Completes accident report forms to report accidents, injuries, or other incidents; administers basic first aid as needed; determines if medical assistance is necessary and contacts medical professionals in a timely manner.
Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties, including answering phone, running errands, picking up supplies, providing information to customers; filing, copying and typing.
Performs light custodial duties as necessary.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Serves as a member of various Village employee committees, as assigned.
Assists staff in the performance of their duties as required.
Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as apparent or as delegated.

Works indoors and outdoors
Required to work nights, weekends and holidays as necessary
