Any Assignment Area
- Operates vehicles, tools, and equipment as appropriate to the assignment.
- Performs inspection and testing tasks as part of a regular preventive maintenance program and to ensure safe and proper operating conditions. Utilizes personal protective equipment when necessary.
- Maintains various records regarding assigned tasks, e.g., work orders, timesheets, materials required/used, and purchase requisitions.
- Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
- Works independently or as part of a team project effort, depending on area of assignment.
- Oversees specific work of others when applicable to work order assignments.
- Responds to emergency call-ins for hurricanes or other critical events.
Landscape Maintenance
- Performs grounds and landscape maintenance by mowing lawns with riding or push mowers; trimming and edging around trees, shrubs, ground cover, flowers, sidewalks, and buildings; weeding, thinning, and cleaning flower beds and other grounds by hand or utilizing proper tools and equipment; and setting up, adjusting, repairing, and cleaning irrigation systems.
- Provides a record of grounds and landscape watering and chemical spraying by keeping daily logs of areas watered and duration of watering and the application of chemicals, including areas sprayed, amount and type of chemicals used, substances sprayed and reason, and the wind speed and direction at the time of spraying as directed.
- Performs tasks common to the care of grounds and landscapes by seeding, watering, mulching, fertilizing, and applying chemicals to outside plantings, lawns, and turf, as well as inside flowers and cuttings used in transplanting; inspecting plant materials for insects, disease, physical and mechanical damage and identifying replacements; transplanting, pruning, trimming, and cultivating trees, shrubs, ground cover, and flowers.
- Removes trash and debris from public areas by regularly inspecting grounds, drains, manhole covers, etc., for debris; raking, sweeping, and bagging leaves, debris, dirt, and trash from streets, sidewalks, parking lots, and transporting the trash.
- Applies chemicals used in grounds keeping (horticulture, turf management, and floriculture) properly and safely and disposing of residual chemical products as directed or storing and labeling them for future use.
- Operates a variety of light to medium equipment, e.g., mowers, edger's, weed-eaters, backhoes, chippers, chainsaws, and blowers.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma/GED required; supplemented by some vocational training and two (2) or more years of technical experience in construction, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical maintenance; demonstrated ability to operate a variety of trucks and tools; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Certifications and Licenses:
- Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver’s License and the ability to drive a Village-owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Depending on area of assignment, a “Class A” or “Class B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred at the time of hire, or the ability to obtain within 12 months of employment or transfer, if the job assignment includes the operation of heavy equipment.
- Employees assigned to work in Utilities must have a “Tanker” endorsement on their CDL for vac trucks.
- Depending on area of assignment, FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) Certification is preferred at the time of hire, or the ability to obtain within 12 months of employment or transfer as necessary.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of basic computer applications
- Depending on the area of assignment, knowledge of basic-level repair solutions may be required to ensure safe and proper operating conditions
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing outstanding customer service
- Skill in working under general supervision with limited latitude and following through with assignments
- Skill in performing inspections and testing as part of a regular preventive maintenance program and ensuring safe and proper operating conditions
- Ability to communicate during emergency situations effectively, promptly, and accurately or to avoid hazards
- Ability to operate heavy equipment
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Ability to oversee specific work of others when applicable
- Ability to clearly communicate and understand information in English, both orally and in writing

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work and may require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of heavy objects or materials (up to 80 pounds). Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment. May require periodic lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavier objects.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks are regularly performed inside and/or outside with potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and/or disease, or pathogenic substances.
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks require sound and visual perception and discrimination. Tasks require oral communications ability. Must have manual dexterity and be able to perform repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, or fingers. Must be able to perceive color and depth. Tasks involve prolonged eye use and/or fine visual ability; computer work, reading text, visual inspections, or measurement devices. Must be able to follow visual cues or signals.
