ROLE & LEVEL: A2
PAY GRADE: 2
HOURLY RATE: $16.72 - $26.13
FLSA STATUS : Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY:
Performs entry-level work in labor-intensive tasks associated to grounds, service, building, custodial, maintenance, construction, irrigation systems, and related components. The position is responsible for carrying out assigned duties and may be asked to perform lesser skilled tasks/projects individually or as part of a team depending on the nature of the assigned project or work order.
Work is performed under general supervision with limited latitude. Position exercises some judgment in accordance with well-defined policies, procedures, and techniques.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs a variety of maintenance duties according to the area of assignment, e.g., custodial maintenance, building maintenance, repairing equipment; maintaining athletic fields and courts; installing and repairing tasks on a variety of irrigation mechanical and electronic system components; addressing safety hazards; maintaining or repairing roads and sidewalks; maintaining surface water infrastructure; and maintaining and repairing various building and facility structures as related to area of assignment.
  • Operates a variety of light to medium equipment, e.g., mowers, edgers, weed-eaters, backhoes, chippers, chainsaws, and blowers.
  • Loads and unloads materials from distribution vehicles; moves and relocates equipment for special activities.
  • Maintains work records regarding observations and solutions, e.g., malfunctioning equipment, materials used, and vendor supply acquisitions.
  • Refers to a variety of documentation and materials for instruction and in troubleshooting systems, e.g., plans, schematics, and installation/repair manuals.
  • Works independently or as part of a team project effort, depending on area of assignment.
  • Ensures adherence to safety and accident prevention standards and regulatory guidelines.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma/GED required; supplemented by one (1) year or more experience demonstrating basic skills in the use of a variety of hand tools and maintenance equipment or in the installation and repair of irrigation systems; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.
Certifications and Licenses:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver’s License and the ability to drive Village-owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • FEMA Certifications (or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment or transfer).
Regular attendance at work on-site is essential to maintain the necessary teamwork, personal interaction, and supervision that this position requires. Responds to emergency call-ins for hurricanes or other critical events.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning equipment operation
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals and hazards
· Knowledge of principles and processes for providing outstanding customer service
· Ability to effectively communicate (verbally) with residents, coworkers, supervisors, administration, and vendors
· Ability to communicate during emergency situations effectively, promptly, and accurately or to avoid hazards
· Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Ability to clearly communicate and understand information in English, both orally and in writing
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those interacted with during work regardless of race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, genetic information, disability, political affiliation, military service, or diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work and may require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of heavy objects or materials (up to 80 pounds). Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment. May require periodic lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavier objects.

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks are regularly performed outside with potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and/or disease, or pathogenic substances.

SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks require sound and visual perception and discrimination. Tasks require oral communications ability. Must have manual dexterity and be able to perform repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, or fingers. Must be able to perceive color and depth. Tasks involve prolonged eye use and/or fine visual ability; computer work, reading text, visual inspections, or measurement devices. Must be able to follow visual cues or signals.
