JOB SUMMARY:
Performs entry level technical work in recreation or administration pertaining to municipal parks and facilities for the Village of Wellington (Village). Assists in the safe and efficient delivery of recreational programming (e.g. cultural programs and facilities) at both scheduled and special events. Depending on area of assignment, performs clerical duties, greets Village customers in a professional manner, answers general inquiries, and directs guests and customers to appropriate Village departments.
Work is performed under close supervision with minimal latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

FUNCTIONAL AREA: TENNIS
  • Assists the Tennis Professionals; schedules and assigns courts; opens and closes the assigned facility according to established programming and/or event schedule.
  • Checks in registered participants and guests; performs required data entry tasks in entering registered and new participants; ensures that participant is registered and at the correct location.
  • Collects tennis balls during and after lessons and activities.
  • Supports tennis professionals with set up, clean, general inquiries, equipment distribution and collection, etc. before and after lessons and events.
  • Assists in warming up with class participants and provides other assistance needed at the direction of the Tennis Professional.
  • Assists the Tennis Professionals by providing instruction during large group lessons such as youth tennis lessons, group lessons, Aces, and camps.
  • Inspects, issues, collects, and properly/safely stores any and all equipment used in the facility and/or area of assignment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED preferred (candidates must be at least 16 years of age to be considered); work experience in a customer service position that demonstrates effective communication skills preferred; experience in a municipal parks and recreation function preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.

Certifications and Licenses:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver License and the ability to drive a Village owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Drivers license/permit required by April 18, 2025
  • Ability to be trained on Civic Rec (recreation management platform) and must be able to do registrations and cash out procedures effectively within the first 30 days.
Regular attendance at work on-site is essential to maintain the necessary teamwork, personal interaction, and supervision that this position requires. Responds to emergency call-ins for hurricanes or other critical events.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures
  • Ability to learn basic record-keeping with monetary transactions
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, and Excel) and applicable department and organization specific software and ability to learn and become proficient in the use of other specialized software as may be required
  • Skill in basic math including but not limited to adding, subtracting, multiplication, and division
  • Ability to multi-task while working with tight deadlines and shifting priorities
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to read, update, and maintain various records and files in numerical, alphabetical, or chronological sequence
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) with residents, coworkers, supervisors, administration, and vendors
  • Ability to clearly communicate and understand information in English, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those interacted with during work regardless of race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, genetic information, disability, political affiliation, military service, or diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the periodic performance of moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds). Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment. Tasks may involve some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks are regularly performed inside and/or outside with potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and/or disease, or pathogenic substances.

SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks require sound and visual perception and discrimination. Tasks require oral communications ability. Must have manual dexterity and be able to perform repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, or fingers. Must be able to perceive color and depth. Tasks involve prolonged eye use and/or fine visual ability; computer work, reading text, visual inspections, or measurement devices. Must be able to follow visual cues or signals.
