What Does the Investigative Aide/Analyst - Police Do?
- Performs highly responsible, confidential, administrative and support functions, including crime scene/evidence preservation/crime prevention duties, non-sworn duties in support of the police property room and program coordination; researches and analyzes law enforcement data; identifies and interpret criminal activity, patterns and trends; forecasts trends to aid in staffing and deployment of police personnel.
Property Control
- Maintains the property and evidence room.
- Prepares and submits evidence for processing by the crime laboratory and use for court proceedings.
- Testifies in court concerning the property and evidence function.
- Performs the duties of a Crime Scene Technician.
Community Outreach
- Attends car shows and other community events to promote police programs and services.
- Assists with Adult and Youth Citizen Police Academy instruction.
Investigative Aide
- Assists in preparing crime prevention presentations, information and materials.
- Assists detectives with investigations as necessary.
- Organization of cold case files and all investigative case files.
- Maintains L.E.A.D.S. certification to request information through the State of Illinois, other states and N.C.I.C.
Social Media and Website Management
- Creates original graphics and/or content for use on social media sites and the department website.
- Creates and updates policies for social media users.
- Monitors social media groups, users and organizations for news or discussions relevant to police operations and outreach.

Are You Qualified?
Education
- Requires Bachelors Degree in criminal justice, communications, information technology or a closely related field.
- In lieu of a degree, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of this job will be considered.
Certification
- Requires certification as a full access L.E.A.D.S. operator.
- Be able to be certified as a matron within three (3) months of appointment.
- Possess an Illinois driver’s license or able to obtain one within 90 days.
Experience
- Requires two (2) years progressively responsible clerical experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of this job.
- Working knowledge of police operations, evidence retention and procedures.
What Will You Get Paid?
This is a full time, non-exempt (hourly) position with a starting wage of $29.96/hr - $39.32/hr (DOQ).
