Winfield, IL (pop. 10,054) This charming, historic community, located in the center of DuPage County, seeks experienced, polished professional candidates to apply for the position of Village Manager. The Village of Winfield is located 28 miles west of downtown Chicago and is one of the region’s premier suburbs with excellent schools, winding tree lined streets with home styles ranging from historic to modern that complement the bountiful parks that bring a touch of rural life to the suburbs. Winfield is fiscally conservative and historically enjoys one of the lowest tax rates in DuPage County. Winfield is the hub of the best in medical care as it is the location of Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital.
The Village employs 34 full-time and 5 part-time staff, with an annual budget of $8.1 million. Its departments include Police, Public Works, Community Development, Finance, and Administration. The Village Manager is supported by an Assistant Village Manager. The Village is served by the Winfield Fire Protection District and the Winfield Park District. The Village Manager is appointed by and reports to the Village President and a six-member Board of Trustees, elected at large to staggered four-year terms. The retired Village Manager served the community for 15 years.
- Candidates should have substantial experience in municipal operations, including financial management and economic development, particularly Tax Increment Financing (TIF).
- Experience with downtown redevelopment and new facility construction will be extremely beneficial.
- Winfield expects a highly engaged, approachable village manager who will demonstrate commitment to service excellence demonstrating a resourceful “can-do” attitude.
- The position requires a bachelor’s degree in public policy, business administration, finance, or related field. A master’s degree is strongly preferred. At least ten years in an executive leadership role in local government is required.
- Candidates must possess excellent interpersonal skills, an approachable, welcoming style with the community and staff, and a proven record in effective service delivery and creative problem solving.
- Refined written and public presentation skills, and a collaborative, team-oriented management style are essential.
Salary: $200,000 /- DOQ, the retiring Village Manager salary is budgeted at $210,895.
