Description

The Village of Woodridge, located in south central DuPage County with a population of approximately 33,000, has an opening for a Civil Engineer in the Public Works Department which reports to the Director of Public Works. The Department has 31 full time equivalent employees. There are currently two Civil Engineer positions in the department supplemented by consulting engineering assistance. This position hiring is seeking to augment the in-house staffing related to an increase of capital improvement projects and more complex development projects. The position performs a wide variety of work related to public improvement projects generally including engineering design and construction management, implementation of the annual road improvement program, and new development review and inspection.

Examples of Duties

Position Responsibilities

  • Planning, surveying, design and management of Village capital improvement projects which may include the water system, sanitary system, storm system, and road improvements.

Plan review and construction inspection of commercial and residential development sites.

Prepare cost estimates, plans, specifications, bids and contract documents.

Oversee and perform construction management documentation, testing and inspection of village projects.

Budget and grant application preparation and administration for engineering projects

Assists in the development of long term planning and implementation of the annual road improvement program.

Respond to a variety of inquiries from the public relating to storm water, traffic, Village infrastructure, construction work and other issues relating to municipal engineering.

Work with GIS and AUTOCAD to update utility infrastructure data and mapping.

Typical Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of civil engineering principals and local, state, and federal regulations as applied to municipal engineering.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and verify items through field observations.

    Knowledge of accepted construction practices relating to public improvement.

    Ability to communicate with developers, engineers, contractors and residents.

    Ability to observe, collect and analyze technical data and to express that data either verbally or in written format.

    Familiarity with the DuPage County Countywide Storm water and Flood Plain Ordinance.

    Working experience with computer applications including Microsoft Office, AUTOCAD or Micro station, and ESRI.

    Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or a related engineering field from an accredited engineering program.
  • Minimum four (4) years professional civil engineering experience including design and project management experience; or

    Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Valid Illinois Drivers' license.

    Availability to work occasional evening and weekend hours when required.

    Bilingual language skills a plus.

    Benefit Information and Starting Salary

    This is a full-time exempt level position with an excellent benefit package which includes health and life insurance, IMRF pension, vacation, paid sick, holiday and personal time and tuition reimbursement. The annual salary range is $81,182 - $117,561. The starting salary will be dependent on qualifications.

    Regularly scheduled Part-time employees receive benefits on a pro-rated basis.
