Our Cheesemongers are an integral part of the Village Super Market experience. As a Cheesemonger, you are friendly and outgoing with a love for cheese and sharing it with all of our customers. To be successful in this position, the individual needs to be passionate about their work with a natural ability to sell.
Experience and Skills Required:
- Knowledgeable about different cheeses and products in the department and recognize differences among similar products e.g. type, region, production and pairing information to better assist and/or advise customers.
- Strong Customer Service skills and ability to interact with other people and participate actively in department and staff meetings.
- Strong teamwork and diversity awareness and ability to recognize and welcome differences among people and resolve conflicts respectfully and in a timely manner.
- Organizational and time management skills and ability to prioritize requests and department activities.
- Ability to conduct continuous interaction with customers and coworkers in a fast-paced work environment.
- Ability to proficiently read, write, speak, analyze, interpret, and understand the English language.
- Ability to operate equipment as required by department (i.e. slicer, scale, can-opener, wrapping machine, cheese grater/cutter, and case cutter).
- Ability to stand, bend, twist, reach, push, pull and regularly lift 25 lbs., and occasionally lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Proactively engage customers, promote product and sales, build customer relationships, and provide G.R.E.A.T. customer service that builds customer loyalty and engagement.
- Construct creative merchandising displays including sales cases and floor displays to sell and educate customers on latest trends and our special offerings
- Ensuring proper levels of product and supplies are maintained and priced by conducting inventories as well as assist in ordering of products
- Ensure product availability, quality and freshness through ordering, rotation, stocking and replenishing of products to help maximize profitability and minimize shrink.
- Package, wrap, weigh, stamp, mark and accurately price and label merchandise for retail sale.
- Prepare trays, set up cases, and overall food displays, rotate and replenish products as needed.
- Maintain accurate department signage and pricing.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by practicing high standards of food and human safety and sanitation techniques provided by Fairway work rules and policies and Health Department Regulations.
- Adhere to all department-related and company-related work rules and policies while upholding company core values of integrity, respect and excellence.
