Full-Time Diesel Technology Faculty – Vincennes Campus
POSITION: Instructor-Diesel Technology
Duties and Responsibilities
- Play a pivotal role in the expansion of the VU Cummins, Diesel and John Deere Technology programs.
- Strong background and experience repairing medium/heavy transportation, construction, agricultural, or power generation equipment.
- Give guidance to students as they complete lab assignments demonstrating skills in preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and problem-solving mechanical issues.
- Be knowledgeable in safety, electrical and electronics, diesel engines, HVAC, powertrain, preventive maintenance, and steering and suspension systems within our industry.
- Ability to communicate with students during various stages of the learning process and to reach each student at his/her maximum learning potential.
- Organize and present prepared instructional materials at scheduled times and places.
- Preserve communications with students and colleagues to assure efficient and effective instruction.
- Maintain records of student attendance, student progress, departmental supplies, departmental equipment, and others.
- Maintain discipline and order during instructional activities.
- Participate in normal program housekeeping activities.
- Prepare daily instructional plans and instructional materials at the modular level. Assist in student recruiting and graduate placement.
- Evaluate the progress and performance of the student and assign grades. Enforce the approved departmental rules and regulations in the classroom and lab; recommend student counseling, probation, or dismissal for excess absences, disruption of class, or lack of progress.
- Initiate purchase requisitions and work order requests.
- Conduct research on related topics in order to maintain current industry standards.
- Communicate subject matter to students in an understandable and patient format
- Embrace an active learning environment.
- Recruit new students and participate in marketing events for the College of Technology
- Other duties as assigned.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Diesel or Agricultural Mechanization Technology or related area plus a minimum of three years full time industry experience and applicable ASE or industry specific certifications.
- Associate's degree in Diesel Technology or related area plus a minimum of five years full time, documented industry experience and applicable ASE or industry specific certifications or ability to complete.
- Related course disciplines/experiences within: Diesel Technology, Agricultural Mechanization, Diesel Management, Diesel Service Technology, Diesel Engineering, Automotive Technology and a minimum of eight years full time, documented experience in the field of Diesel, Agricultural Equipment, or Automotive Technology plus applicable ASE or industry specific certifications.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Physical ability is needed to successfully complete tasks in classroom and laboratory environments. Ability to lift 25 pounds and stand for extended periods of time required.
