The Department of Humanities at the Vincennes University Jasper Campus is seeking a dynamic, mission-driven faculty member to join our team as a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor of English and Department Chair. This position reports directly to the Assistant Vice President and Dean of the VU Jasper Campus.

You will be responsible for a broad and impactful role that extends beyond the classroom. While high-quality teaching is a fundamental aspect of this position, you will also actively contribute to the growth and success of the entire VU Jasper community.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Teaching: Delivering 15 credit hours per semester of developmental and composition courses as assigned.
- Student Support: Maintaining regular office hours to guide and mentor students throughout their academic journey.
- Academic Advising: Providing personalized academic guidance to empower students to achieve their educational and career goals.
- Collaborative Leadership: Collaborative Leadership: Working alongside campus and university administrators at the Jasper Campus, VU Colleges, and the broader University to enhance programming and strengthen institutional initiatives.
- Community Engagement: Building meaningful partnerships with external partners, including K-12 institutions, to foster educational opportunities and strengthen community connections.
- Departmental Leadership: Serving as Chair of the Humanities Department, promoting a culture of care, collaboration, and continuous improvement through inclusive leadership.
- Institutional Contributions: Actively participating in departmental and university-wide committees to support initiatives that enhance student success and advance the university’s mission.
- Program and Course Assessment: Conducting systematic evaluations of courses and programs to ensure quality, relevance, and alignment with the evolving needs of students, the community, and the broader educational landscape.
- Service Beyond the Classroom: Engaging in meaningful contributions that enrich the campus and surrounding community, demonstrating a commitment to the holistic mission of VU Jasper.
- Other Duties as Assigned: Contributing to the evolving needs of the University and the campus by embracing opportunities to lead positive change.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in English, or
- A Master’s degree in a related field with a minimum of 18 credit hours at the graduate level in English.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree or Ph.D. in English, Rhetoric and Composition, or Writing Studies with coursework in composition pedagogy.
- A commitment to and demonstrated experience teaching developmental and/or composition courses, especially at the community college level.
- Experience teaching accelerated, corequisite, or integrated reading/writing courses.
- A passion for innovative teaching methods, including hybrid and community-integrated learning opportunities.
- A commitment to the community college mission and a culture of positivity, collaboration, and innovation.
