About the Role
As a Public Works Technician, you'll take the lead on maintaining our city's irrigation systems, ensuring efficient water usage, and troubleshooting issues to keep our landscapes thriving. Your work will directly support the city's sustainability goals while maintaining the beauty of our public spaces. This role also involves general grounds maintenance and assisting with facility repairs.
What You'll Do
- Irrigation System Installation and Maintenance: Install, maintain, and repair irrigation systems for city parks and public spaces. Optimize system performance to ensure efficient water use and healthy green spaces.
- Grounds Maintenance: Maintain trees, shrubs, and plant life; operate landscaping equipment like riding mowers, saws, and edgers to keep our public spaces looking great.
- Facility Maintenance Support: Help with basic maintenance tasks like carpentry, plumbing, and repairs to city facilities. Assist in the operation of backup power systems and other essential mechanical apparatus.
What We're Looking For
- Education and Experience
- Two years of experience in irrigation system installation, maintenance, or related landscaping work preferred
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot irrigation issues
- Proficiency with landscaping tools and equipment
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions
- Valid driver's license
- Availability
- Willingness to work some weekends and on-call hours when needed
- Preferences
- Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator's License (or willingness to obtain within 6 months)
- Experience in general facility maintenance tasks like plumbing and carpentry
