Requirements:
- Advanced Nurse Practitioner credentials and must be eligible to prescribe as a psychiatric Nurse in Massachusetts required.
- Must possess valid PMH-APRN credentials which are in good standing. Required credentials include PMHCNP, PMHNP, PMHCNS, PCNS.
- At least five years of psychiatric nursing experience, three of which must have included prescribing medications to individuals with serious mental illness.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Master's degree in nursing preferred.
- CPR required within two weeks of hire
- Must be a least 21 years of age and have held a valid US driver's license for at least one year and should be able to pass a CORI, driving record, employment reference check as well as a multi-state background check
Description:
Under the supervision of the Outpatient Services Medical Director the Prescribing Nurse will hold PMH-APRN credentials and provides medication and medical services to adults and youth with serious mental illness in an outpatient setting. The Prescribing Nurse monitors each client's clinical status in response to treatment, assists in the clinical supervision of staff in service delivery and attends team meetings as necessary in order to assess client status and progress, to coordinate treatment activities, and to develop treatment solutions to problems staff are experiencing. The Prescribing Nurse also functions as a medical educator and consultant in collaboration with other clinicians regarding health promotion and maintenance, medication administration and acute and chronic medical/psychiatric crisis management for clients. In addition, the Prescribing Nurse provides psychiatric evaluations and medication management utilizing a team approach to children, adolescents or adults dealing with varying psychiatric issues.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Monitor each client's clinical status in response to treatment and side effects, educate clients regarding psychotropic medications, and provide leadership in conjunction with the Clinic Director in the clinical supervision of staff in service delivery.
- Be actively involved in both acute and long-term psychiatric inpatient treatment of clients including initiation and facilitation of admission to the hospital; regular communication and consultation with the attending prescribing clinician; and along with other team members, collaboration with the inpatient staff in the planning and implementation of treatment and discharge to the community.
- Conduct psychiatric assessments including psychiatric history, course of illness, response to treatment, mental status examination, and 5 Axis current DSM diagnoses.
- Provide on-site crisis assessment and management of clients during regular work hours, both on-site and over the phone, during other hours, and 24/7 on-call prescribing related and crisis coverage for clients as scheduled.
- Provide education, consultation and training to outpatient staff and clients regarding changes in health status, health promotion and maintenance.
