General Description:
Our 9th-grade High School Counselor assists scholars with academic, career, and social skills and emotional development, providing individual and group counseling, and collaborating with students, staff and families to support student learning. This position serves a dual role:
- 70% - 9th Grade Counselor: To provide comprehensive school counseling services specifically to current and developing 9th-grade students, addressing their unique needs in the transition to high school and focusing on their academic, social, and emotional development.
- 30% - Student Information System (SIS) Specialist: To manage and maintain the student information system, ensuring data accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
Responsibilities:
High School Counselor (70% - 9th Grade Focus): Provide comprehensive counseling services to 9th-gr. students, with key responsibilities including:
- Academic Support:
- Help students develop academic plans and make informed course selections.
- Monitor student progress and address academic growth.
- Assist with the transition to high school, providing guidance on academic expectations, resources, and support services.
- Career Guidance:
- Help students explore career interests and develop career goals.
- Provide information about post-secondary options, including career tech training and college programs.
- Social and Emotional Support:
- Provide individual and group counseling to address student personal concerns, as scholars adjust to high school.
- Promote positive social behaviors and conflict resolution skills.
- Provide students with appropriate resources for mental health support.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work with teachers, families, administrators, counselors, and other staff members to support student learning and success.
- Participate in school-wide initiatives and committees.
- Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with students, parents, and other stakeholders.
- Other Duties:
- Administer aptitude assessments and other assessments to help students understand their strengths and interests.
- Educate students and staff on important topics meeting site goals.
- Advocate for all students' needs and ensure equitable access to resources and opportunities.
Student Information System (SIS) Specialist (30%):
- Maintain the accuracy and integrity of student data within the SIS.
- Oversee student enrollment, registration, and scheduling processes.
- Provide training and support to staff on the use of the SIS.
- Generate reports and data as needed by administrators.
- Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal data reporting requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve SIS-related issues.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Counseling or a related field.
- Valid Oklahoma teaching certificate with counseling endorsement.
- Experience working with high school students, preferably in the 9th grade.
- Strong understanding of (or desire to learn about) student information systems and data management.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students, families, staff, and the community.
- Commitment to student success and a positive school environment.
Contract:
- 168 days, temporary contract
