Job Title: Assistant Store Director FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Purpose Summary
The Assistant Store Director is responsible for all aspects of store operations. This includes the proper execution and evaluation to ensure maximum sales, effective cost control, and efficient utilization of labor. They are accountable for ensuring a positive experience for customers as well as providing a safe, positive working environment for employees. This position requires adhering to all procedural guidelines to include company policy and all local, state, and federal compliances.

Essential Job Duties
- Responsible for assisting to create a culture and level of interaction to ensure exceptional customer service.
- Accountable for providing strong, positive, and pro-active leadership to his/her team while providing direction, feedback, and holding them accountable for performance and results under supervision of Store Director.
- Prepares weekly sales/labor projections, executes to plan, and consistently achieves budgeted payroll percentage under supervision of Store Director.
- Manages store financials and demonstrates full comprehension of the Profit & Loss (P&L) Statement under supervision of Store Director.
- Monitors cash management for the store including approving all store expenses before they occur under supervision of Store Director.
- Ensures all store expenses have received appropriate approval before entry under supervision of Store Director.
- Ensures monthly inventory counts, all deadlines are achieved, and store is inventory ready.
- Monitors and addresses customer issues, personnel situations, rewards and recognition, and policy violations.
- Responsible for compliance with local, state and federal laws as well as internal audits.
- Oversees the merchandising, loss prevention, and store appearance/conditions for their store.
- Sustains a high level of product knowledge and product preparation.
- Maintains a safe work environment for employees, vendors and customers.
Non-Essential Job Duties
May perform similar and incidental duties as required by Management.
Job Qualifications
Education: Must have a minimum of 1-3 years professional experience. Grocery, restaurant, or retail experience preferred.
Experience: Preferred 3-5 years grocery retail experience in overall store operations and merchandising processes and procedures.
Knowledge: Must maintain the highest level of customer service at all times. Ability to adapt to the ever-changing high volume retail while working in a cross-functional team environment. Must have the capacity to take initiative when problems arise. Flexibility to adapt in a variety of situations. Must have advanced attention to detail with the capability to prioritize and meet deadlines. Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates. Must be familiar with Health Department guidelines and regulations as they pertain to a grocery retail environment. Efficient planning and ability to execute for results. Demonstrates ability to improve staff performance through motivation, training and setting clear expectations. Must have the ability to analyze and create action plans for financial statements.
Leadership Skills: Excellent written communication and documentation skills. Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills for dealing cross functionally with peers and senior management. Must have knowledge with MS Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel. Ability to multitask and have excellent organizational skills is essential. Must be able to lead, support and contribute to team goals.
Language Skills: Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, clearly communicating operational concerns with Management and co-workers.
Math Skills: Overall skills and knowledge of mathematical principles and practices. Ability to perform computations to complete financial paperwork.
Other: Individual must have reliable transportation and proof of automobile insurance is required (if individual will be required to drive on behalf of Vintage Grocers.) Individual must have reliable transportation to arrive to work on time.
Other Abilities: Ability to provide organizational leadership and foster a team environment. Ability to handle multiple priorities.
Reporting Relationships
Reports to the Store Director, General Manager and Market Director.
Major Business/Professional Contacts
The Assistant Store Director will have constant contact with Guests, Team Members, Bookkeepers, Managers and occasional contact with Leadership staff and outside vendors. It is necessary for this person to conduct these relationships with professionalism and cooperation for the betterment of the Company. The Assistant Store Director will regularly give suggestions to their Managers regarding financial performance and trends. The Assistant Store Director is expected to follow appropriate procedures with respect to all communications (Store Director, General Manager, Market Director, and Human Resources.)
Working and Environmental Conditions
Works indoors and outdoors. Constant exposure to fumes from grocery store, food preparation equipment, and cleaning solvents (ex. flour dust, cooking fumes and gases.) Constant fluctuation in temperature and conditions (ex. heat, cold, humidity) due to movement from one area to another. Some noise and vibration exposure. If working an event, may work outdoors in varying temperatures and in different environments such as golf courses and beaches.
Physical Demands
Must have the ability to lift up to 30 lbs. Ability to stand or walk for long periods of time. Requires clear speech in English. Performs fine hand manipulation during money handling and cleaning operations. Must be able to reach 56 minimum. Flexible hours, night and day, weekends, and holidays. Ability to operate all related office equipment.
