The Houseman plays a crucial role in maintaining the hotel’s cleanliness, ensuring a welcoming and safe environment for guests and staff. This position supports the housekeeping team by performing a variety of tasks, including cleaning public areas, assisting with room turnovers, and managing supplies.


Guest Areas

  • Clean and maintain all public areas, including lobbies, corridors, elevators, restrooms, and meeting spaces.
  • Respond promptly to guest requests for additional items such as towels, pillows, or toiletries.

Housekeeping Support

  • Deliver clean linens, towels, and amenities to housekeeping staff or directly to guest rooms.
  • Collect dirty linens and transport them to the laundry area.
  • Assist in the setup and breakdown of furniture or equipment for special events or meetings.

Stocking and Maintenance

  • Replenish housekeeping carts with supplies, including cleaning products and linens.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and amenities, reporting shortages to the supervisor.
  • Ensure proper functioning of housekeeping equipment and report any maintenance issues promptly.

General Duties

  • Ensure hallways and storage closets are clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Handle trash and recycling removal from public and back-of-house areas.
  • Follow all safety and sanitation procedures to comply with hotel standards and local regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Previous housekeeping or janitorial experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., stand and walk for extended periods, and perform repetitive motions.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Fast-paced environment requiring flexibility and adaptability.
  • Shift work, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, may be required.
  • Must be customer-focused attitude with a commitment to delivering exceptional service.
  • Must be dependable and punctual.
  • Must have a proactive approach to identifying and resolving problems.

Lifting and Carrying:

  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs., such as linens, cleaning supplies, and furniture.

Standing and Walking:

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout shifts, including moving between guest rooms, public areas, and storage areas.

Bending and Stooping:

  • Frequent bending, stooping, and crouching to clean floors, replace items, or retrieve supplies.

Reaching and Stretching:

  • Ability to reach above shoulders and below knees to clean, restock supplies, and handle equipment.

Pushing and Pulling:

  • Ability to push and pull carts weighing up to 75 lbs., including housekeeping trolleys or furniture.

Climbing:

  • Occasional use of step ladders to clean high areas such as light fixtures or windows.

Manual Dexterity:

  • Frequent use of hands and arms for repetitive tasks, such as cleaning, folding linens, or restocking items.

Vision and Hearing:

  • Adequate vision to read labels, inspect cleanliness, and ensure safety.
  • Sufficient hearing to communicate with guests, coworkers, and supervisors.

Environmental Exposure:

  • Work may involve exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and varying temperatures (e.g., when moving between indoor and outdoor areas).
