Position Summary: Manually plant, cultivate, and harvest vegetables, fruits, nuts and field crops. Use hand tools, such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, and knives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Methods, supplies, equipment and tools used in grounds maintenance; control of weeds; plant diseases and pests; plant identification; installation and repair of irrigation systems; turf care practices, vegetable and flowers maintenance practices; maintenance of power equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Graduation from high school, and 1-3 years work experience.
License or Certificate:
This position requires the use of a company vehicle while conducting business. Must possess a valid (Class C) California driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy items (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking. Frequently required to work under inclement weather conditions. Must be able to work safely in an environment requiring frequent exposure to chemicals. Must be able to operate a variety of gas-powered equipment and sharpen hand and power tools safely.

- Tilling soil and applying fertilizers; transplanting, weeding, thinning, or pruning crops; applying pesticides; cleaning, packing, and loading harvested products.
- Set up and operate irrigation equipment.
- Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, spray and harvest crops.
- Harvest fruits and vegetables by hand.
- Apply fertilizers to crops.
- Inform chef of crop progress.
- Identify plants, pests, and weeds to determine the selection and application of pesticides and fertilizers.
- Record information about crops, such as pesticide use, yields, or costs.
- Responsible for timely servicing of irrigation systems.
- Ability to modify/adapt to schedule changes due to weather.
- Understands water management and makes adjustments as needed after reviewing with Landscape Manager.
- Responsible for site safety. Responsible for maintaining all tools and machinery and reporting mechanical and safety problems to Landscape Manager.
- Responsible for notifying Manager of the need for restocking of supplies, such as fuel and materials.
- Operate hand tools, landscape equipment and machinery in a safe manner.
- Read and follow instructions.
- Operate independently as well as part of a team.
