Join our vibrant Quaker community as a Summer Camp Counselor at our fun, interactive, and engaging summer camp. Grounded in our Quaker SPICES of Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality, and Stewardship, our summer camp offers children a nurturing and inclusive environment where they can explore, learn, and grow. As a camp counselor, you will play a key role in creating memorable experiences for campers, fostering their social, emotional, and intellectual development through engaging activities, games, and excursions.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise groups of elementary-aged campers in various indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
- Plan and implement age-appropriate activities, games, arts and crafts, and team-building exercises that align with Quaker values and promote social, emotional, and cognitive development. Our camps are thematic and you will receive the theme weeks in advance. As a counselor, it is your job to work with our Camp Director and your co-counselors to plan and implement fun, thematic activities.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive camp environment where campers feel valued, respected, and empowered to express themselves.
- Serve as a positive role model for campers, embodying Quaker principles of integrity, kindness, and peaceful conflict resolution in interactions with others.
- Collaborate with co-counselors and camp leadership to coordinate daily schedules, routines, and special events, ensuring a well-rounded and engaging camp experience for all participants.
- Provide guidance and support to campers in resolving conflicts, navigating social dynamics, and building positive relationships with peers.
- Assist with the setup, cleanup, and maintenance of camp facilities and equipment, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all participants.
- Communicate regularly with campers' families, providing updates on their child's experiences, achievements, and any concerns that may arise.
- Participate in all staff meetings and trainings to enhance skills and knowledge relevant to camp counseling and Quaker education.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in education, child development, or related field preferred.
- Previous experience working with children in a camp, childcare, or educational setting, with a strong preference for experience in a Quaker or similar progressive environment.
- Passion for working with children and creating positive learning experiences that promote growth, creativity, and self-discovery.
- Understanding of and commitment to Quaker principles, including equality, community, and nonviolence.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and connect with children of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, including problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, as well as independently with minimal supervision.
- CPR/First Aid certification and background check are required
- Reliable transportation and timely arrival at camp are a must.
