What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nuclear Nurse - RN/LPN/EMT-P - RE-OPENED position at Virginia Cardiovascular Specialists?
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Provide administrative and clinical oversight needed to ensure optimal throughput and adherence to stress testing protocols.
- Greet patients, verify patients’ identities, escort them to the prep room, explain the test and insert IV. Obtain clinical history and review medical records.
- Review medications and make sure patients have complied with prep instructions.
- Utilize patient’s clinical history, medical records, current medications, and/or referring physician requests to make necessary adjustments in the stress testing protocol.
- Prepare patients for exercise and pharmacologic stress; prepare and administer intravenous infusions as needed.
- Interpret/monitor complex cardiac rhythms and assess changes in patient status.
- Properly store, prepare and administer non- radioactive pharmaceuticals. Record identity and dosage of each pharmaceutical, as well as the route, site, time and identity of person administering the dose.
- Manage stress testing equipment and focus on quality control matters related to that equipment.
- Utilize protocols regarding the amount of exercise a patient should undergo, end points of stress testing, recognition of ECG changes before or during exercise that would require switching to pharmacologic stress.
- Communicate with family members and instruct patients about how to obtain results.
- Ensure the referring physician gets the report promptly.
- Assist schedulers and nuclear medicine technologists in optimizing camera use, reviewing instructions with patients, and obtaining patient records (chart prep).
- Willing and able to periodically travel to alternative locations to cover shifts on an as needed basis.
