General Description: The Technician Manager will support the Tech Ops Director in all activities as required to keep MARS facilities, Launch Pads, Airfield and support teams at an operationally ready state.


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide direct oversight of technicians.
  • Support Tech Ops Director with process development and improvements
  • Manages staff to ensure coverage during launches
  • Works in close collaboration with Tech Ops Director to execute Operations strategy
  • Manage personnel training program requirements, provide verification of personnel readiness for operation.
  • Provide recommendations to ensure staffing plans and development are aligned with the organization’s operational commitments and strategic plan
  • Coach, support and motivate to maintain a high performing team.
  • Establish and execute all operation plans including material, manufacturing and integration and test activities.
  • Execute to operational constraints document; review and coordinate technical support to disposition constraints to near term and long-range program milestones.
  • Assist and improve processes, tools, documentation and management techniques to maximize technician process execution excellence and quality.
  • Collaborate with operations and design engineering to resolve technical issues related to MARS operations and maintenance.
  • Provide input to design changes and new design for operation and maintenance feasibility.
  • Support technician group equipment, and tool needs, and request needs thru approved processes.
  • Communicate delays and team needs to Tech Ops Director.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS


General Education


Job-Related Experience:
At least ten (10) years of direct, practical work experience in the performance of operations, maintenance, alteration, and repair of complex mechanical fluid/hydraulic and pressure systems, structural maintenance and corrosion control, or HVAC systems. Must have or possess the ability to obtain certification as a NASA Level 2 High Pressure Operator. Must have formal training and certification for operation of fork-lifts, scissor man-lifts, and boom-lifts.

Certifications:

Licenses, etc.: Must possess a valid driver’s license


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Qualification: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Have field experience in the operations and maintenance of cryogenic and pneumatic systems, launch Pad experience preferred. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Position requires a strong technically orientated operations management background with a focus on space launch vehicles and space launch ground systems with directly related work experience.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for the resolution of operational anomalies.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding launch range command, control, and communications systems and their interface with the launch pad.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding space launch pad fluid, high pressure gas, hydraulic, electrical and control, safety, and structural systems.
  • Must be willing to travel in support of launch activities.
  • Must be able to maintain mental clarity and efficiency in work in a stressful operational environment.
  • Must be able to work well with demanding customers to deliver confidence in ability and promote long-term business relationships.
  • Must be able to understand, follow, and promote OSHA safety guidelines in the workplace.


A 90-day probationary period is required of all newly hired and re-hired employees.

Must be able to maintain secured access to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport and supporting facilities.


Knowledge:
In-depth knowledge of advanced mechanical systems and devices including their principles of operation and functional design. Skilled, proficient and able to direct others in the proper use of hand and power tools (including torque wrenches, precision measuring devices) and maintenance support equipment (vacuum and pressure pumps, jacks and lifting devices, access equipment) used in the operation, maintenance, alteration, and repair of pneumatic, cryogenic, hydraulic, HVAC, and other liquid, and control systems.


Skills:

  • Ability to effectively lead people
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Organization and attention to detail
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office or related programs.
  • SharePoint experience preferred.


Abilities:

  • Time management with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrates high professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues


Physical Demands
: Work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing, lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds, crouching or crawling in restricted areas

Work Environment: Work involves moderate discomforts which require special precautions, e.g. working around moving parts, carts or machinery, working with irritant chemicals, conducting field work in various outdoor weather conditions. Work environment involves significant risks with exposure to potentially danger or extremely adverse conditions which require a range of safety and other precautions, e.g. fieldwork on launch pads, near high pressure and cryogenic systems, near extremely energetic materials (which at MARS launch pads)


Must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility for issuance of a NASA credential.

Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.
