Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, licensed independent practitioner, or manager, the Nurse Extern assists with a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities. These direct activities may include, assistance with activities of daily living, comfort care, safety, nutritional support and performance of selected diagnostic and therapeutic tasks and procedures as directed. Indirect patient care activities may include maintaining a clean, safe environment, sterilization and ensuring adequate inventory of supplies and equipment.Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire : N / ALicensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment : AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalentExperience REQUIRED : N / AExperience PREFERRED : Acute care experience as a nursing assistant or aide experienceEducation / training REQUIRED : Completion of first semester junior year in a BSN program dependent upon school curriculum.VCU / MCV BSN students : Completion of Sophomore year, Nursing 201, 202, 261.Associate Degree and Diploma programs : completion of first year or a minimum of two semesters of basic nursing courses.
