Clinical Manager - Sports Medicine

This position is responsible for managing the clinical activities within the Sports Medicine Cliinic. Works collaboratively with the Medical Directors, other clinic leadership and stakeholders to ensure timely patient access to care, operational efficiency, practice productivity, fiscal integrity, patient satisfaction and employee engagement.

Essential Job Statements

Manages clinic location that provides complex services to high volumes of patients. To include facility management, local vendor contracts, space management, staffing plans, supply mgmt. and budgetary responsibilities and clinical quality and outcomes in assigned areas.

Develops and implements staffing plans and assures appropriate coverage. Interviews, selects, mentors, and evaluates RNs, Athletic Trainers, CMAs and other clinical team members.

Partnership with access strategy for given locations to promote access to care

Provides direct patient care as needed and assures that clinical skills are maintained as appropriate.

Provides on-going evaluation of the delivery of patient care services to ensure continuous improvement of services. Implements improvements in collaboration with physicians, clinicians, and other members of the health care team.

Monitors patient experience and takes timely action to address identified issues in collaboration with the leadership team.

Reconciliation of charges, denial management and other revenue cycle initiative participation

Coordination with MCVP divisions on addition of service lines or new providers at Sports Medicine Clinic

Directs the acquisition and allocation of human, material, and financial resources to ensure utilization in an appropriate and cost-effective manner

Development and monitoring of the annual budget to ensure adequate control of financial resources.

Participation in engagement and efficiency initiatives within the assigned location.

Ensures compliance with standards set forth by external licensing, accrediting, and regulatory agencies.

Promotes an environment that supports educational growth opportunities for nursing and Athletic Training staff. Coordinates to ensure educational requirements and clinical competencies are maintained for all clinical team members.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Employment Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelor of Science in a specialized curriculum accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education or Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing

Preferred Education: MSN, MBA, or master's degree in health-related field from an accredited program. Athletic Trainers - One (1) year residency in ATC physician extender program

Licensing/ Certification

Licensure/Certification Required: Current Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) or Current RN licensure in Virginia

Licensure/Certification Preferred: Certification in specialty area Completion of Athletic Training Residency Program

Minimum Qualifications

Years and Type of Required Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience. Clinical experience can include RN, LPN, CMA, athletic trainer or other clinical technical roles in health healthcare. 2 years clinical supervisor or other clinical leadership experience. Management experience in an Ambulatory Environment preferred.

Patient Population: Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide equitable care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit. Demonstrates knowledge and related competencies of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age, specific needs and to provide the equitable care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures. Pediatrics (1-12 years), Adolescents (13-17 years), Adults (18-64 years), Geriatrics (65 years and older)

Working Conditions: Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur. General office environment. May be exposed to physical altercations and verbal abuse. May be required to use physical restraints. May be exposed to adverse weather conditions; cold, hot, dust, wind, etc. Required to car travel to off-site locations, occasionally in adverse weather conditions. May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights. May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids. * May be exposed to human blood and other potentially infectious materials. * May have periods of constant interruptions. Prolonged periods of working alone.

* Individuals in this position are required to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.
