Duties & Responsibilities | Winning Presentations The Business Essentials Unit in the School of Business at Virginia Commonwealth University is recruiting a pool of applicants for adjunct faculty positions on an ongoing basis. Should funding for such adjunct teaching positions become available, the Undergraduate Studies Office will contact persons in the pool whose credentials match our teaching needs. This pool will be accessed only when an opening arises. Note that we are unable to hire applicants who are not already in the pool. BUSN 225: Winning Presentations is a rigorous public speaking course designed and taught by theatre professionals for undergraduate business students. It is an experiential course (REAL 2) using performance, storytelling, and team building techniques, leading students to discover their professional personal presentation styles. Class sizes are small and the courses are delivered in-person, online, or in a hybrid modality two or three days per week for fifteen weeks during the regular academic year. Instructors are provided with a common syllabus shared across sections, for consistency in the curriculum. Instructors have ample room for autonomy to tailor lessons, assignments, and activities to their strengths and preferences. We are seeking candidates with strong backgrounds in performance, education, and business. We are a passionate team of artists and educators committed to inspiring students to become the best version of themselves. Duties and Responsibilities: - Teach a total of 2.5 hours per week, usually 2-3 days per week. - Timely submission of grades and communication with students. - Attend and complete all required training prior to and upon completion of each semester. - Conduct regular office hours |
Qualifications | Required Qualifications: - MFA in Theatre, or a master’s degree in a closely related discipline - Demonstrated excellence in teaching - Professional performance experience, acting and/or directing - Strong communication skills, superior written and presentation skills, and professional presence. - Professional experience in an area of business (marketing, accounting, finance, real estate, management, etc.) - Demonstrated experience or interest in teaching and collaborating with diverse populations
Preferred Qualifications: - 2 years demonstrated excellence in teaching public speaking or related courses at the college level - Demonstrated excellence in performance pedagogy - Business experience - Experience with Canvas or another learning management system
