Assistant Band Instructor
Position Title: Greater Richmond Youth Wind Ensemble Assistant Band Instructor
Location: Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), Department of Music
Reports To: Associate Director of Bands
Position Summary:
The VCU Department of Music is seeking a dedicated and professional Assistant Band
Instructor to support the operations and growth of the Greater Richmond Youth Wind Ensemble
and university's band program. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to musical
excellence, uphold the values and policies of VCU, and contribute to the success of the
students and ensemble.
Key Responsibilities:
- Rehearsal Attendance
- Attend and actively participate in all weekly band rehearsals.
- Student Supervision:
- Complete all mandatory training related to the supervision of minors on
campus, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all participants.

- Professional Representation:
- Represent VCU and the Department of Music in a professional manner
during rehearsals, performances, and community engagements.

- Communication and Collaboration:
- Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively
work with students, faculty, and staff.

Qualifications:
Required:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to professional conduct and adherence to VCU policies.
- Availability for weekly rehearsals and training sessions.
- Experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment and a commitment to equity, diversity, and accessibility in teaching, leadership, and practice
Preferred:
- Previous experience in music education or ensemble instruction.
- Familiarity with university band programs.
