Mission or Goal of Unit: Provide rehabilitation and neuropsychology
leadership to the Commonwealth of Virginia with the goal of improving the quality of
life for individuals with disabilities by maximizing independence in living skills
and employment activities through innovative education, evidence-based research,
and outcome-focused patient care. Chief Purpose of this position: Provide adult and geriatric outpatient clinical neuropsychology
and rehabilitation psychology services. Position Responsibilities: Clinical: Consultation to referral sources and interdisciplinary treatment team;
collaboration related to patient's cognitive and behavioral strengths and weaknesses and neurobehavioral needs and issues; including development of intervention plans based on interviews, observations, and test findings to be implemented by the
interdisciplinary treatment team Primary consultation services to PM&R,
General Neurology, and Epilepsy Care Team. Timely preparation and
submission of documentation, including reports and progress notes; liaison
between psychology staff, referring professionals, patient, and family;
maintenance of practice credentials and completion of education as required by
hospital, university, and state practice organization. Preferred Qualifications:
Primary: Providing neuropsychological assessment to adults with traumatic brain
injury, stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and dementia among other
disabling illness or injuries. Secondary: Providing health and behavioral
interventions, including: psychoeducation and time-limited psychological
interventions for improving adjustment to disability; behavior management; and other
cognitive behavior targets.
Teaching:
Teaching
and training fellows, students, staff, and professionals, with regard to
clinical neuropsychological evaluations and treatments.
Research:
Assisting and supporting on-going funded
rehabilitation and neuropsychology research and participating in the
dissemination, including writing of articles and presentations.
Service:
Participating in university and department committees
as requested. Engaging in activities sponsored by advocacy and service
organizations for persons with disabilities.
