Mission or Goal of Unit: The Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is dedicated to providing comprehensive, state-of-the-art clinical care, teach medical students/observers/residents and engage in clinical / translational research. The pediatric specialties service at VCU Health/the Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) at VCU is the region’s only full-service children’s hospital, offering comprehensive emergency, primary, secondary, advanced, tertiary and long-term care, with more than 40 pediatric medical/surgical services. Chief Purpose of this position: We invite candidates to apply for Pediatric Otolaryngologist physician position. The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at (VCU) seeks a BE/BC, fellowship-trained Pediatric Otolaryngologist to join a robust and growing academic practice. Salary and
academic appointment will be competitive and commensurate with experience. Pediatric Services Expansion: There is energy and momentum around advancing children’s health in Richmond. In 2017 the CHoR Pavilion, a 640,000 square foot, multi-story, high-tech ambulatory facility for pediatric outpatient medical, surgical and radiologic services was opened. This facility includes: May 2023, we opened the Children’s Tower new free-standing, full-service Pediatric Hospital, directly connected to the existing outpatient Pavilion, an entire city block will be dedicated and designed to meet the unique health care needs of children and to provide Richmond the most advanced and coordinated care possible. Teaching – Faculty member will participate in the teaching of residents, medical students and other students & observers. Provide CME lectures for professionals. This position will provide clinical expertise and care toward surgical treatment of all Otolaryngology anomalies. The physician will support the training and teaching of Otolaryngology residents as well as other students and observers. The physician will strive for excellence and productivity in research discoveries in their clinical area of focus. The Department fosters a level of research and professional activity essential to the GME program (Otolaryngology residency) and to the professional growth of the faculty.
Position Responsibilities:
Research – Faculty member shall establish a reputation of excellence in clinical and/or translational research, with the expectation of publication in refereed journals and potential external funding. The development of interdisciplinary collaborations to enhance the research and clinical programs at VCU is expected. Mentoring of residents and students in their research.
Service – Faculty member will serve on departmental, Health System and/or University committees as needed. Service in a professional capacity in their field in such areas of reviewer, external committee member, conference organizer, etc. are encouraged.
Clinical – This is the area of primary focus as a clinical faculty MD. Faculty member will demonstrate excellence in provision of care and treatment of patients within the discipline. Faculty member will demonstrate responsibility toward growth of individual clinical practice and referral base. Faculty will participate in multi-disciplinary clinical endeavors.
