Mission or Goal of Unit: The mission of the VCU Division of Surgical
Oncology is to both provide the Mid-Atlantic’s most advanced, patient-oriented,
cost-effective and safe surgical oncology services, as well as to create the
finest training environment for the region’s future Surgical Oncology
Specialists. The division is committed to enhance diversity
among its faculty, staff, and students. Chief Purpose of this position: The Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology is recruiting for an open rank, early- to mid-career
collateral, non-tenure track faculty
position in the field of surgical oncology, endocrine surgery. This position will be expected to develop a robust clinical practice at the VCU Medical Center as well as our community satellite locations. The
faculty member will support the division’s expanding efforts to
provide excellent oncology surgical support to many of our current regional
outreach programs, including Massey Cancer Center. Finally, the faculty member will support
the division’s commitment to teaching surgery residents and, fellows as well as
VCU medical students. Position Responsibilities: Teaching: The faculty member will have
teaching responsibilities in surgical oncology with an emphasis on endocrine surgery. Research: The faculty member must participate in clinical and/or basic
science research relevant to the expanding field of endocrine surgery. Research in the field of cancer disparities, translational
oncology, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, or cancer genomics would be encouraged. A record of publication in
refereed journals or presentations at national meetings is expected. The faculty member will be expected to develop
interdisciplinary collaborations within VCU’s Massey Cancer Center, Medical Oncology
and Radiation Oncology to achieve these goals. Service: The faculty member will serve on
University, Health System, and departmental committees as requested by
leadership. They will assist with the
recruitment, training, and placement of residents and fellows among the varied
specialties outlines above. Clinical: Clinical responsibility will be in the care of the surgical oncology patients on the MCV campus of VCU Health System as well as community outreach satellite
location(s). They will be responsible
