The Department includes approximately 54 professional students per class pursuing a DPT, physical therapy graduate students pursuing a PhD in Rehabilitation and Movement Sciences (REMS), 3 post-professional residencies, and extensive research laboratory space for pediatric and adult research of motor development, motor control, biomechanics, and human performance. The primary responsibility of this position is to teach within one or more of the four physical therapy practice patterns course sequence: cardiovascular and pulmonary, integumentary, musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems. This position will also have scholarship and service expectations. An opportunity to be involved with clinical education will be available. - Teach courses within one or more of the physical therapy practice patterns, and contribute to other Department educational needs.
- Participate in student success initiatives and advise students.
- Demonstrate advanced skill and judgement, and actively contribute as a collective team member related to course design, development and integration.
- Provide constructive and timely evaluation of students.
- Faculty member will serve on Department, College and/or University committees.
- Provide professional and community service in an area of expertise.
- Engage in scholarly activity to enhance knowledge of Physical Therapy, which will contribute to the success of the Department and College.
- Graduate from an accredited Physical Therapy program.
- Eligible for licensure to practice physical therapy in Virginia.
- Ability to teach physical therapy-based courses, focused on clinical practice and other courses aligned with the candidate’s areas of expertise and department needs.
- Ability to complement and expand the existing expertise in the Department.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience in fostering an inclusive and diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, or commitment to do so as a faculty member of VCU.
- Scholarly and teaching experience in the areas of neurologic and/or geriatric physical therapy.
- Experience as a coordinator of clinical education.
- APTA Board Certified Clinical Specialist.
- At least 2 years of teaching experience in a Physical Therapy entry-level program.
- Academic doctorate (PhD, EdD, DrPH or DSc) in a relevant field or post-professional masters (MBA, MHA). ABD would be acceptable.
- Experience in optimizing inclusive education and mentoring students from under-represented minority and/or historically. marginalized communities.
- Membership in the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
