The Pauley Heart Center (PHC) and Internal Medicine departments are seeking to hire a Biostatistician to assist with clinical research programs that encompass a wide and growing portfolio of research projects and endeavors. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with Pauley Heart Center/Division of Cardiology faculty and staff, providing statistical expertise and consultative services for investigators performing cardiovascular research. The candidate must be able to work independently and under minimal supervision to perform tasks such as statistical design, proposal preparation, data management including interim analysis and monitoring, statistical analysis, and dissemination of results. The candidate will be expected to assist researchers with manuscript preparation and attend regular meetings providing dedicated time towards statistical support for the team.
Core Responsibilities:
- Statistical Analysis and Support: Conduct in-depth analyses of data from ongoing research projects which can include multicenter clinical trials, biomedical research projects, observational studies, etc.; Prepare and present statistical results for interim and final reports
- Data Monitoring and Quality Control: Monitor and assess data quality throughout the study lifecycle; Identify problems in research projects and databases and implement new or revised statistical approaches to ensure integrity of results
- Manuscript and Proposal Support: Write statistical plans for proposed research, also assist with development of specific aims, data collection procedures and randomization plans for research proposals; Assist with writing results sections of reports and scientific manuscripts
- Collaboration: Work closely with clinical, regulatory, and other research faculty and staff to integrate statistical expertise into proposals and other publications; Prioritize multiple concurrent tasks as research needs and study demands dictate
- Mentorship and Training: Support learning opportunities of students, trainees, and other non-statistician team members, fostering a culture of scientific excellence
Minimum Hiring Standards:
- Master’s degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Mathematics, or Bachelor’s degree in a related field with three years of experience working as a biostatistician in health and/or clinical research data analysis
- Strong ability to present research findings in oral and written formats
- Proficiency with statistical software applications, including SAS, R, etc. and clinical data management tools
- Excellent communication and organization skills
- Experience working collaboratively in a biomedical research environment
- Ability to work autonomously
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
