Summary
The Director of Fixed Assets will be the primary person responsible for maintaining the University’s fixed asset accounting system. This includes but is not limited to:
- Maintain policies and procedures that keep the University in compliance with accounting standards and applicable laws and regulations as it relates to fixed assets
- Supervise and oversee the work of the Fixed Assets Accounting Team to ensure quality accounting records are maintained
- This position will have primary responsibility for the fixed assets system and the general ledger accounts related to fixed assets
- This position will have responsibility for overseeing the Robotics Automation Process (RPA) that VCU utilizes for recording additions to fixed assets
- Ensure that proper training materials are prepared and kept up to date
- Review fixed asset reports and reconciliations on a monthly basis
- Review expense accounts for capital assets that may be miscoded
- Provide support for VCU’s Facilities and Administrative Cost Rate Proposal (FACR).
- Ensure that equipment locations are accurate and up-to-date for the FACR proposal.
- Oversee the Higher Education Equipment Trust Fund (HEETF)
- Record and reconcile depreciation expense
- Prepare schedules and footnote disclosures for the audited financial statements
- Serve as primary contact to the external auditors in support of the audit of fixed assets
- This position is required to be in person, with some remote work opportunity
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in accounting, or equivalent thereof
- Significant experience accounting for fixed assets
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to work in a diverse environment
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
- CPA license
- Experience with FACR proposals/indirect cost accounting
