ChiefPurpose of this Position : TheDepartment seeks candidate that will provide care to patients at VCU Health asassigned by the Department Chair or Chair's delegate. Virginia Commonwealth,University, Department of anesthesiology, is seeking an accomplished academicanesthesiologist to serve as Division Chief of Pediatric Anesthesiology. We are seeking a nationallyrecognized academic leader, with outstanding clinical acumen, excellence ineducation and research and a strong commitment to clinical operations andpatient access optimization. Demonstration of proven leadership skills to effectivelyinspire, manage, and develop faculty and staff as well as possession of advanceskillsets in interdepartmental collaboration and consensus building is arequired. This individual will report to the chair of the department ofanesthesia and the Physician in Chief of Surgery. The candidate willbe responsible for all aspects of the VCU department of anesthesiology and theChildren's Hospital of Richmond mission, as they pertain to the practice of thepediatric anesthesiologist, including clinical care, education, research, andadministration. This includes pre-anesthetic evaluation,intraoperative anesthetic care, postoperative rounds, resuscitation andintensive care, therapeutic / diagnostic nerve blocks, and consultation in casesof chronic pain. Directs the activities of nurse anesthetists as assigned byChair or Chair's delegate.
Position Responsibilities :
1) Teaching : Develop and improve educational programs which support learningand enhanced practice. Provides "bedside" clinical teaching of residents,medical students, student nurse anesthetists and others. Participates in thedidactic teaching programs of the Department at this institution and attendsconferences, rounds, and staff meetings as required by Chair.
2) Research : Lead innovative scholarship in Pediatric Anesthesia. Establishcriteria for benchmarks of success for Pediatric Anesthesiologist for theassessment of achievement of excellence in scholarly activities.
3) Service : May serve on various departmental, School of Medicine, Universityor VCU Health System committees as requested by Chair or determined viaindividual interest. the Department stresses the importance of being a goodcitizen of the institution and fosters community service at all levels.
4) Clinical : Develop a vision that focuses on lifelong improvement inperioperative outcomes. Provide leadership and expertise, clinical operationsmanagement at Virginia Commonwealth University, School of Medicine and VCUHealth. Provide clinical anesthesiology care to patients as directed byDepartment Chair or delegate. May supervise and direct Certified RegisteredNurse Anesthetists (CRNA) as appropriate.
Required Qualifications :
- MD or DO degree
- ABA Board eligible / certified in Anesthesiology
- Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in Virginia
- Eligible for employment in the United States
- Prior demonstration in Leadership in an Academic Anesthesiologist Department
- Strong communication, clinical and teaching skills
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
