- Assist in research participant recruitment and obtaining informed consent.
- Assist with qualitative and quantitative data collection.
- Perform data entry, cleaning, management, and analysis of ongoing research projects.
- Conduct and prepare systematic literature reviews.
- Maintain research databases.
- Maintain accurate and organized records of research activities and study materials.
- Manage project timelines and ensure adherence to deadlines.
- Assist with the preparation of manuscripts for academic journals.
- Prepare PowerPoint and poster presentations for professional conferences and meetings.
- Assist with grant proposal preparation and submission.
- Attend in-person and teleconference project meetings.
- Meet regularly with the supervisor to discuss research assignments.
- Perform routine clerical duties as requested, if essential to the research activities of the supervisor or project to which the research assistant is assigned.
- Educational Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent applicable combination of training, education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
- This role requires a high level of organization, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic research environment.
- Experience: Previous research experience: Prior experience in academic or clinical research is highly desirable. Experience with qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis.
- Skills: Strong analytical skills: Ability to analyze and interpret data accurately. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant software. Excellent written and verbal communication skills: Ability to prepare manuscripts, reports, and presentations.
- Organizational skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail: Ensuring accuracy in data entry, analysis, and documentation.
- Interpersonal Skills: Team-oriented: Ability to work collaboratively with the research team, participants, and external stakeholders.
- Independent worker: Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Flexibility: Willingness to attend in-person and teleconference meetings as needed.
- Clerical skills: Proficiency in performing routine administrative tasks.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Public Health, Psychology, Sociology, or a related discipline).
- Familiarity with IRB processes and ethical guidelines for human subjects research.
- Experience with data management and statistical software (e.g., REDcap, SPSS, SAS, NVivo, Dedoose) is a plus.
