Summary:
The College of Humanities and Sciences (CHS) is searching for a collaborative and experienced Human Resources Coordinator to provide both strategic vision and operational execution of human resources. The Human Resources Coordinators are vital members of the CHS HR team, reporting to the Director of Human Resources, and working alongside other HR Professionals. This position will coordinate and process the day-to-day Human Resources activities for the departments within CHS. Primary responsibilities include recruitment, onboarding and offboarding of non-benefited employees, affiliates and volunteers, providing immigration assistance, and serving as timekeeper. Responsibilities also include detailed data tracking and assistance with preparation of complex departmental and program reports as well as serving as the record retention coordinator for human resource files. Typical Duties
- Assist with a variety of HR functions, such as recruitment and staffing, employee records, employee relations, compensation, benefits, training, recognition, etc.
- Utilizing HR systems, process accurate and timely routine compensation and recruitment actions, as well as confidential forms and records pertaining to applications, employment, enrollment, pay changes, and other sensitive HR materials.
- Verify accuracy of submitted data and ensure policy compliance.
- Respond to internal and external HR related inquiries or requests and provides assistance
- Provide support and guidance on leave policies and procedures, including overtime, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), etc.
- Administer new hire onboarding and off-boarding for separating employees.
- Assist with HR related communications
- Assist with the maintenance of all employee records
- Assist in answering employee and manager questions regarding annual and probationary performance evaluations.
- Participate in HR Associate group meetings and training.
- Support school or unit engagement initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training and/or work experience.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
- Ability to research personnel records, handle sensitive/confidential information with care, and consult University/State administrative policies while promoting unit-wide adherence.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously with careful attention to detail by stated guidelines.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Impeccable customer service skills.
- Keen attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrated record of dependability and reliability; excellent history of attendance required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience coordinating human resources operations in a higher education setting.
- Three or more years of experience in human resource administration.
- PHR, SPHR, SHRM or other related certification.
- Thorough knowledge of University/State regulations, policies and procedures as they relate to human resources, payroll, and timekeeping.
- Extensive experience with university administrative responsibilities and handling issues related to personnel, and payroll.
- Familiarity with VCU faculty recruitment policies, guidelines or practices.
- Previous professional experience in Human Resources at VCU, and working knowledge of VCU HR policies and regulations (recruitment policies, guidelines and best practices, etc.).
- Experience with Banner, Cornerstone or other Human Resources Information Systems.
- Previous professional experience serving as Primary Timekeeper or Timekeeper Proxy.
