Position Summary
The Research Analyst is responsible for supporting Strategic Enrollment Management through reporting on admissions, enrollment, student success, and financial aid data, conducting enrollment research, developing and conducting evaluations of programs, and other tasks, as assigned. This position reports to the Director of Enrollment Research and Evaluation within the Division of Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Success.
Core Responsibilities
Coordinate, collect, extract, and analyze enrollment data and trends (75%) -
- Serve as a member of the Enrollment Research team that is responsible for operational reporting, evaluation, and analytics for the division
- Collect, extract, and analyze data from both internal and external data sources, in support of university and division strategic plans
- Ensures data used in research analytics projects meets quality standards for the intended use and usage and distribution complies with established university data security standards
- Query, join, manipulate, and analyze large datasets
- Revise operational reports using SAS
- Respond to ad hoc data requests
- Build and enhance Tableau dashboards
- Collaborate and communicate with the Office of Institutional Research and Decision Support to support institutional enrollment planning
- Coordinate and oversee data-related projects, facilitating development of project plans and ensuring timelines, deliverables, and objectives are met. Collaborate with stakeholders to track progress, address challenges, and maintain documentation to support effective project execution and reporting.
- Conduct and document evaluations of programs that impact or support division goals and metrics.
- Mentor and coach constituents on meanings, utility, opportunities and limitations of data used in analytics projects and information derived from analytics projects.
- Complete other duties as assigned in order to support changes in priorities or unforeseen demands.
Minimum Hiring Standards
- Master’s degree or an equivalent level of education and training
- Completed Graduate coursework or professional experience in quantitative and qualitative research methods and multivariate statistics
- Experience with statistical software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R, Mplus, STATA)
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
- Ability to interpret data and provide information in an understandable way
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
- Ability to organize work and activities of others as they relate to successfully conducting research evaluation, data collection, and information presentation tasks
- Doctorate degree or a current doctoral student
- Experience conducting qualitative and quantitative research and manipulating large datasets using SQL or SAS
- Experience utilizing SAS programming and Tableau
- Experience working in a higher education environment
- Experience assessing higher education program effectiveness and outcomes
- This is a fully remote position.
