Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. This position is responsible for providing comprehensive support, management, and security across the college. It proactively ensures that technologies related to security, data integrity, and systems availability are configured and maintained in accordance with Reynolds and VCCS security requirements.
Key responsibilities include championing network, server, and security support to ensure availability and integrity. Security administration tasks involve auditing, managing, and mitigating vulnerabilities on network resources and enterprise applications.
The role also includes developing and maintaining documentation of networks and systems, keeping inventory and configuration management records, responding to audit requests, and contributing to disaster recovery and incident response plans.
System administration duties encompass tier 1 and tier 2 support of servers, assisting the Computing Support / Help Desk team, creating and managing Group Policy and Active Directory, patch management, and contributing to desktop engineering to automate endpoint deployments.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's / Required Qualifications
- Experience with endpoint security technologies, endpoint detection and response suites, full disk encryption, and multifactor authentication ( MFA ).
- Proficiency in using tools for vulnerability scanning, risk analysis, mitigation, and deploying operating systems / software in Windows, Mac, and Linux environments.
- Ability to interpret scripts for troubleshooting, system configurations, and data parsing.
- Experience in managing and reporting enterprise patching, policy creation, and directory services within Windows, EntraID, Intune, and Office365.
- Proven ability to learn new software and champion its deployment in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience supporting networks, including segmentation, switch / port configurations, Wi-Fi troubleshooting, and RF spectrum surveys.
- Ability to work independently on projects, manage multiple complex tasks, and prioritize without supervision.
- Effective verbal and written communication, and ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
- Comprehensive knowledge of VCCS and Virginia’s security standards, policies, and procedures.
Additional Considerations
Graduation from high school with training in computer information systems or a related area is required. A Bachelor’s degree in computer information systems or a related area is preferred. A network or security credential such as CompTIA Security is preferred.
Direct experience with managing enterprise endpoint tools, imaging, software packaging, and patching is required. Creating and interpreting multiple scripting languages (PowerShell, Batch, etc.) is preferred. Ability to perform Tier 1 & 2 servers and network infrastructure support is required.
Operation of a State Vehicle No Supervises Employees No Required Travel
The ability to travel regionally to Reynolds and VCCS locations as-needed.
