Job Duties
The Department of Environmental Quality's (DEQ), Blue Ridge Regional Office (BRRO), is seeking a qualified candidate to review routine permit applications and permit related operation and design submittals for applicability and completeness; evaluate air pollution control technologies; develop engineering calculations and write enforceable permits for issuance in a timely manner, which are technically and procedurally accurate in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, written policies, and procedures. This position will also provide recommendations and support for approval of plans, specifications and other value engineering documents; and provide technical support for permit-related compliance and enforcement actions by working with stakeholders (applicants, DEQ Compliance and Enforcement staff, and the public) to resolve issues efficiently, openly, fairly and consistently.

Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge and/or experience in a field of engineering or science that are translatable to the KSA required for air permitting.
- Knowledge and/or experience performing mathematical calculations that are translatable to evaluating air pollution emissions.
- Knowledge and/or experience with industrial processes and operations.
- Knowledge and/or experience with reading and applying policies, guidelines, and regulations, especially as related to state and federal air pollution control regulations.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to make independent and sound decisions, work without close supervision, and resolve problems independently and as a team.
- Knowledge, skills and abilities in project management and personal computer operations (including word processing, spreadsheets, and database management).
- Combination of education and/or training with major course work in engineering and/or physical sciences.
