About the Position :
The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Cloud Engineer in our Criminal Justice Information Services Division at State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The successful candidate will lead technical activities to integrate State Police's cloud-hosted Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions using a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and other means, as appropriate, with other cloud and on-premises applications; work with suppliers and other private and public entities to build and improve system integrations that apply best practices related to application and infrastructure security, network communications, disaster recovery and other technical challenges; plan for and lead long-term technology improvements; and review and analyze the compliance of cloud and on-premises technical solutions with federal, state and VSP security policies including the solution architecture, APIs, network configurations / protocols, user access protocols, identity access management, encryption, threat monitoring, data privacy and compliance, and on-going automated security testing.

Minimum Qualifications
- Considerable knowledge of software development using modern tools such as Java.
- Working knowledge of cloud engineering principles and protocols for formulating and designing systems and applications, using scientific analysis and statistical models to predict and measure outcomes and consequences of design; and of network protocols.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze cloud requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints; to evaluate system-to-system interfaces, including hardware and software components, and operational, performance and security requirements; to communicate effective verbally and in writing in English; and to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Experience developing web applications using a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is required.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills is required.
- Limited travel is required to outlying VSP Divisions and Area Offices is required.
- Valid vehicle operator's license.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
