About the Position :
The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire an Equipment Repair Supervisor in our Communications Division at State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The successful candidate will supervise a team of Equipment Service and Repair Technicians in the Fleet Services Garage, where vehicles are received from across the Department, but also from a wide range of car dealerships and other state agencies; oversee quality control and routine maintenance for each vehicle that enters the facility, which includes conducting vehicle speed calibrations, decommissioning vehicles that have reached end of service life, and preparing vehicles that have been damaged beyond repair for surplus; and ensure the cross training of subordinate staff and / or assists with the development of desk procedures to ensure continuity of operations.

Minimum Qualifications
- Working knowledge of automotive systems, equipment installation, electronic, and police equipment.
- Skilled in the use of hand and power tools and automotive diagnostic testing equipment; of supervisory principles to train and evaluate the performance of subordinates; of state procurement procedures, state inspection rules and regulations, and surplus property policies; and of safety principles related to law enforcement shop operations.
- Skill in operating computers and using MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, or equivalent applications) to create documents and basic reports; and in interpersonal and communication skills to work within a para-military organization, and to communicate with vendors, and other Commonwealth Agencies.
- Demonstrated ability to apply automotive repair techniques; to diagnose and repair automotive equipment and parts; to read and interpret repair manuals; to conduct research for law enforcement specific enhancements and / or modifications; to utilize an asset management system to track program related assets and equipment; to prioritize fluctuating workload and maintain a variety of records; to prioritize and schedule workload of direct reports; to multitask and to work with multiple, diverse agencies; to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing; to lift 50 pounds unassisted; and to travel as needed.
- Experience in automotive / mechanical and / or electronic equipment systems and repair is required.
- Must have the ability to operate a roll back type car carrier.
- Virginia State Inspection certification mandatory after six months of employment.
- Ability to work during Agency or Governor declared emergency event required.
- Certification Virginia Operator's License required.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
