Job Duties
The Intelligence Specialist is part of the Special Operations Unit located at Department of Corrections' Headquarters in Richmond, Virginia. This position will be based at the Operations & Logistics Work Center located on the grounds of State Farm Correctional Center in Powhatan, Virginia.
The Department of Corrections (DOC) recognizes that there are covert activities that pose a direct threat to the safety and security of its correctional facilities and the community at large. This position enhances public safety of the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Department of Corrections staff and inmates by working closely with inter-departmental units, local, state and federal law enforcement entities.
This position contributes to the agency's public safety mission by providing for the safety and security of the public, staff, and inmates working with all facilities, districts, state, local federal law enforcement an outside agencies to receive, process, and review data / intel received from inmate phone calls, secure messages, cellphone scans, cell phone extractions, drone and counter-drone technology to control the introduction of contraband to prevent policy and law violations.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid Driver's License. Stable employment history and correctional law enforcement or corrections experience. Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend workplace policies and procedures and to prepare workplace reports and documentation. Working knowledge of criminal investigation methods and techniques. Skill in interviewing suspects and witnesses to obtain pertinent date. Ability to secure and preserve crime scene evidence. Ability to lawfully possess a firearm in the Commonwealth of Virginia
Additional Considerations
Knowledge working with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook applications. Additional knowledge at a community college, college, or university. A current remote pilot certificate with a small UAS rating is preferred and will be required within 90 days of employment.
