Position Summary:
The Government Affairs Associate is a member of our Business Development and Government Affairs Teams, with primary responsibility for managing reporting requirements and compliance with various state and federal broadband funding programs which have been awarded to the Company. The Associate will work cross-functionally with internal teams and external stakeholders to maintain compliance while providing accurate and timely information to external stakeholders.
This role will also participate in the identification and pursuit of additional public-private partnership and grant funding opportunities and support the Government Affairs team with communications and outreach to policymakers at the federal, state and local levels.
Critical responsibilities:
- Develop, enhance and manage reporting management systems for various state and federal broadband. programs in which the Company participate
- Prepare and submit ongoing progress and compliance report.
- Coordinate with internal teams (including Finance, Engineering and Operations) to track project expenditures, infrastructure build progress and eligibility criteria
- Serve as a key liaison between the Company and state broadband agencies
- Serve as a key liaison between the Company and County governments
- Prepare presentations for public meetings and update.
- Assist in the monitoring of legislation and regulation related to the Company’s objectives.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of the Company’s relationships with the Virginia General Assembly.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of the Company’s relationships with the Virginia Executive branch and relevant state agencies.
- Assist in the execution of the Company’s annual political contribution strategy.
- Build and maintain relationships with the government affairs functions at other companies whose interests intersect with those of APB.
- Assist the Public Affairs team, including by helping to coordinate and execute the Company’s participation in media and public events.
Qualifications of a strong candidate:
- A Bachelor’s degree in political science, public affairs, communications, business administration, or another relevant field is required.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in government affairs, regulatory compliance, broadband policy, and/or grant management.
- Experience working with government agencies, local governments and/or state and local regulatory bodies.
- A commitment to the Company’s culture, mission and values.
- Ability to be a self-starter and work independently on initiatives.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, project management tools, and grant reporting platforms.
- High-energy; able to work well with multiple priorities and concurrent deadlines and responsibilities.
